Marvel Studios has a jam-packed schedule ahead, with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to begin filming in April and release in May 2026, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ a year later.
While it’s an ambitious timeline, Marvel has pulled off back-to-back projects before, as seen with ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’. However, recent reports suggest that ‘Doomsday’ could be facing an unexpected delay.
Marvel Is Still Confused About Who To Include In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, ‘Doomsday‘s release date might get pushed due to uncertainty surrounding its cast. This revelation has left fans questioning whether Marvel Studios can stick to its current timeline or if a delay is inevitable. Speaking on The Hot Mic, Sneider claimed he had heard rumors that the film might be pushed back.

“I think that the release date could push to the next slot,” he said. “They don’t know who’s in the movie, that’s what I heard.” While it might sound surprising that Marvel is still figuring out its ensemble this late in the game, it aligns with recent events. Benedict Cumberbatch initially denied involvement in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, only to later confirm Doctor Strange will, in fact, appear.
Additionally, rumors have circulated that Tom Holland may not be available for the film, with a stuntman potentially filling in for Spider-Man. So, given that both films are now expected to shoot back-to-back, Marvel might be reconsidering whether it can meet its planned timeline.
‘Endgame’ Writer Thinks Robert Downey Jr. Returning As Tony Stark Would’ve Betrayed His Ending

Amid all the uncertainty, one major topic of conversation is Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU. While many fans hoped he’d reprise his role as Tony Stark, ‘Endgame‘ writer Stephen McFeely recently addressed the situation. “When I got the news this was where it was going, I thought it was pretty electric,” McFeely said.

The writer believes that bringing him back as Dr Doom was the best possible outcome. “To do it as Tony Stark would be betraying what I thought was a pretty lovely ending for him in Endgame,” he explained. Moreover, while no official delay has been announced, the rumors are hard to ignore.
If ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ does move, it could impact the entire MCU timeline, including ‘Secret Wars‘. However, one thing is certain, anticipation for the next Avengers saga is through the roof. Whether it arrives in May 2026 or later, fans will be ready.
