The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to experience another huge crossover, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is already on its way to becoming the largest ensemble since ‘Endgame’. With months to the long-awaited 2026 release of the next installment of the MCU, the talk about returning heroes and villains is still very much ongoing.
And now, two household names are reviving fan hype: Elizabeth Olsen and Josh Brolin. Although Olsen is not sure of Scarlet Witch’s future, Brolin has made Marvel fanatics believe that Thanos might return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
Elizabeth Olsen Reflects On Her Scarlet Witch Journey

Since her introduction in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen, has become one of the most powerful and emotionally nuanced characters in the MCU. From her sorrow-induced frenzy in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ to her tender moments as a mother figure in ‘WandaVision’, Wanda Maximoff has experienced more than most Marvel heroes.

Olsen, in a more recent interview with The Playlist, looked back at her time in the role, stating, “I’ve been really proud of what we’ve been able to make. Really proud.” It’s clear that Olsen still holds deep affection for Wanda. However, when it comes to her MCU future, she’s keeping things close to the chest. In a direct question as to whether she could reprise her role as Scarlet Witch in future projects such as ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, Olsen responded frankly, “I don’t have an answer for that.”
She went on to express admiration for the character’s evolution, noting, “I want to see [her] return in this role because I think what they’ve done with her is really great. And I love the journey she’s taken.” That choice of words, “I want to see her return”, has sparked endless debate among fans. Is Olsen teasing her own comeback? Or is she genuinely out of the loop on Marvel’s Phase 6 plans?
Fans are naturally suspicious, considering the history of Marvel keeping secrets. Andrew Garfield spent months denying that he was in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, after all, only to appear on the screen when the film was released. To make the fire even bigger, the filming of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is said to have ended in September 2025. That schedule gives ample space to a final Scarlet Witch appearance.
“I Might Acquiesce”: Josh Brolin Teases Thanos’ Comeback

As the Avengers are ready to confront Doom, there is another ghost of their past that might soon come back. Thanos, the Mad Titan who reduced the Mightiest Heroes of the Earth to their knees, may be returning grandly. Josh Brolin, the actor behind the Mad Titan, recently talked about his MCU future in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Brolin, when questioned about whether he would take up his role again, joked, “If Joe Russo comes to me, which he may have, I don’t know, and has an idea, then I might acquiesce. Probably pretty quickly.” The wording may be playful, but it’s enough to make the fandom erupt. After all, the Russo brothers were the creative minds behind both ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’, and now they’re taking over ‘Doomsday’.
The franchise has already experimented with other iterations of the villain in ‘What If…?’. Brolin even came back to voice the character. So, another timeline or universe variant of Thanos might easily show up in ‘Doomsday’. The most thrilling part of this concept is the possibility of Thanos and Doctor Doom sharing the screen. They are two of the most iconic villains in the history of the Marvel universe. So, seeing them on screen together would be a treat.
