‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is already becoming one of the busiest, most ambitious MCU events to date. Marvel is evidently betting big on returning legacy Avengers, multiverse variants, the Fantastic Four, and even Fox-era X-Men.
However, as exciting as the confirmed lineup is, there’s one absence that’s starting to feel louder by the day, and recent comments from Chris Pratt have only made that silence harder to ignore. Star-Lord is not officially established as part of ‘Doomsday’. Yet, emotionally and narratively, it is increasingly difficult to envision the film without him.
Why Star-Lord’s Absence in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Would Sting

The MCU did not simply shelve Peter Quill away at the end of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’. In fact, it did the opposite. The post-credits scene of the movie directly stated that The Legendary Star-Lord was coming back. Quill was sent back to Earth to reestablish his human connection after spending years in space. It was a deliberate moment. By putting Peter on Earth, the epicenter of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, Marvel eliminated all the logistical justifications of keeping him on the sidelines.

No cosmic distance. No Guardians’ obligations. Only an experienced hero who leads a peaceful life until the universe needs to be rescued once again. Storytelling-wise, ‘Doomsday’ seems to be the logical reason for his reappearance. Peter Quill has a history with the Avengers, especially Thor, and his mix of humor, heart, and hard-earned maturity would balance the film’s inevitable darkness. He does not have to be the leader of the team; he only has to appear.
Chris Pratt’s Comments Make The Silence Louder

Chris Pratt has recently confirmed that he would like to reprise his role as Star-Lord, claiming that he would like to make good on the promise that Marvel made at the end of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3′. That is not a statement that proves anything. However, it does not have to. It points to something that fans already know: Star-Lord’s story is not over. The MCU actors are continuously walking a fine line in press tours.

They can’t say yes, they can’t say no, and fans don’t always believe either answer. But Pratt’s are less evasive than they are enthusiastic. He wants to come back. And the most obvious opportunity is ‘Doomsday’. Should Star-Lord not be included in the film, the blow will fall twice as hard, not only because the fans were anticipating him, but because Marvel explicitly set expectations. The promise exists. The setup exists. The timing is perfect.
That does not imply that his absence would be a failure. Ensemble movies entail hard decisions, changing plans, and time constraints. Yet it would still hurt emotionally. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ does not require Star-Lord to be successful. However, it may be a bit emptier without him after all that Marvel has said, and everything that Chris Pratt has hinted at.
