Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Drops In 2025, Rumored To Debut Robert Downey Jr.’s Dr. Doom

The wait is finally coming to an end for Marvel fans. After months of speculation, anticipation, and wild theories circulating across the internet, the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer is officially set to premiere on December 19, debuting in front of ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’.

With the MCU entering its monumental Phase 6, this upcoming film marks the beginning of an endgame of its own. And it promises to reshape the entire multiverse forever.

Directed by the Russo brothers, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ wrapped principal photography on September 19, 2025. The film is already being hailed as one of the most ambitious superhero crossovers ever attempted. The movie, releasing on December 18, 2026, will serve as the penultimate installment before ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, and early reports suggest it will deliver both nostalgia and innovation in equal measure.

Perhaps the most mind-blowing detail to come out of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is the return of Robert Downey Jr., not as Tony Stark, but as Doctor Doom, the iconic Marvel villain and one of the most complex characters in comic book history. Downey’s return marks a full-circle moment for fans who thought they had said their final goodbye to him after ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Doom is set to play a major role across the two films.

Collider first confirmed the trailer release news. Whereas, Marvel insiders have hinted that the teaser could give audiences their first official look at Downey’s Doctor Doom, possibly alongside glimpses of the Fantastic Four and the returning X-Men. During Marvel Studios’ surprise live stream earlier this year, the ensemble cast was revealed one chair at a time. Fans were thrilled to see the return of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as Professor X and Magneto, respectively. Other X-Men, including James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), will be returning.

For many longtime fans of Fox’s X-Men franchise, this crossover feels like a dream come true. It’s a chance to see the mutants finally share the screen with the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will make his long-awaited return for the first time since ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. Despite persistent rumors, Chris Evans has denied any involvement. However, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased that not all members of the new Avengers lineup have been revealed.

Simu Liu Called ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ “A Love Letter To The Superhero Genre”

While plot details remain tightly under wraps, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu recently offered an emotional glimpse into what the film represents, not just for him, but for superhero storytelling as a whole. In a conversation with SR, Liu was asked to describe ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ in three words. Without hesitation, he said, “Yeah, three: dream come true.” Liu’s response captures the awe many actors must feel stepping into a project of this magnitude.

He elaborated, saying, “I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them.” The actor described Doomsday as something far greater than a blockbuster. He called it “a love letter to the entire superhero genre.” “It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that,” Liu said.

He went on to express a heartfelt sentiment: “It’s for all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow, that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in.” Liu’s words perfectly summarize what has made the MCU special for nearly two decades: its ability to make audiences believe that heroes can come from anywhere.
