‘Avengers: Doomsday’s X-Men Reveal Points To The Real Foundation Of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga

Marvel Studios’ newest ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ trailer doesn’t just raise hype, it quietly rewrites assumptions about which MCU movie truly matters most going into the franchise’s next defining crossover. Naturally, fans expected future releases such as ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ to bear the brunt of the narrative.

However, the trailer instead throws the spotlight on a previously unexpected pillar of the Multiverse Saga. What ‘Doomsday’ clarifies is that the emotional, narrative, and structural support of its multiversal anarchy might not lie with the First Family of Marvel, but with a film that used to appear like a mad, irreverent outlier: ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.

There is one significant reason making the third ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ teaser trailer so special: it focuses on the X-Men. For the first time since Marvel Studios regained the rights to the characters, they’re no longer teased from the sidelines; they’re placed directly in the path of an Avengers-level event. Cyclops’s appearance in the middle of the battle with his visor off is not fan service; it is a statement.

What’s especially striking is how these X-Men are framed. They do not look like freshly rebooted MCU versions, or even indistinct multiversal silhouettes. Rather, the trailer is highly indicative of continuity. It showcases characters who are lived-in, familiar, and emotionally intact. That immediately draws ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ into attention. That film did something no MCU entry had dared before.

It did not destroy or overwrite the Fox X-Men universe. By positioning Wade Wilson and Logan as literal saviors of that timeline, Marvel created a rare narrative loophole. The Fox X-Men weren’t softly rebooted; they were canonically rescued. In case the X-Men in ‘Doomsday’ are the same characters, then their appearance cannot be separated from ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.

Their existence and their capability to enter the realm of Avengers-level narration are due to the fact that that film redefined multiversal destruction as something that could be fought back against, not merely watched by the TVA. Although Marvel may eventually show that these X-Men are variants of a parallel universe, the connective tissue is still the same. ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ is the source. The MCU did not simply accept other timelines; it allowed the fans to care about them once more.

Why ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Couldn’t Risk The X-Men Without ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’

Bringing the X-Men into the MCU was always inevitable. It was a creative gamble to do it this way, not by starting fresh but by leaning into Fox-era continuity. Nostalgia may be strong, yet it may also backfire when handled improperly. Bringing back characters whose stories seemed to be closed would be a disgrace to their legacy.

In case you missed it: Why ‘Avengers: Doomsday’s Doctor Doom Feels Rushed Despite The Hype

It is here that ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ come in handy. The movie did not simply reintroduce Wolverine; it confirmed the Fox X-Men era as something worth retaining. It struck the right balance between irreverent humor and sincere affection, showing that these characters could fit into the tonal framework of the MCU without losing their identity. The success provided Marvel Studios with a safety net.

In its absence, the X-Men plot of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ would be much more dangerous, even irresponsible. Rather, the trailer implies confidence. Marvel is not apologizing that it is reviving these characters; it is developing on a proven audience basis. And that makes ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ not just a fan-favorite anomaly, but the quiet cornerstone of Marvel’s boldest crossover yet.
