Marvel Studios is gearing up for the release of ‘Captain America: Brave New World‘, with Anthony Mackie set to take up the mantle of Captain America from Chris Evans. The film is reportedly inspired by Evans’ critically acclaimed portrayal of Steve Rogers in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘.
Coming off mixed responses to some of its recent Disney+ shows and films, Marvel is looking to undo the damage with the upcoming film. With fans excited about the project, production designer Ramsey Avery recently revealed that he aims to make his film rooted and grounded like Chris Evans‘ ‘Captain America‘ and how he plans on executing it.

Production Designer Ramsey Avery Aims To Focus On Realism
In an interview with Collider, Ramsey Avery talked about the realistic approach he wants to incorporate in ‘Captain America: Brave New World‘. “The intent of this is to be very grounded, to make sure it has that sense of what’s really happening in the world. So it’s a different sense in a lot of ways than particularly some of the more recent pieces have been. And it’s a very deliberate choice” he said.
Avery wants audiences to feel like they are watching a story that could truly occur on Earth. He wants to avoid the grandiose spectacle of recent Marvel projects and instead draw inspiration from the gritty neo-noir style of The Winter Soldier.
While staying vague on story details, Avery hinted the film may draw parallels to relevant issues in the real world. “So, we’re going to put him through the wringer and make him earn it, and see what happens when he is outweighed, outclassed, out-everything. What makes somebody Captain America? I’m going to argue it’s not being a super soldier. And I think we’re going to prove that with Mackie and Sam Wilson,” he teased.

How ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Will Draw Parallels With Real World Issues
When asked about Anthony Mackie stepping into the role of Captain America, Avery said the challenges facing Sam Wilson will feel very real. “What happens with this guy who announces publicly kind of, without the support, ‘I’m new Captain America.’ What happens next? I think is fascinating because he’s a guy. He’s a guy with wings and a shield, but he is a guy” he commented.
Mackie will face threats that can overwhelm a normal human, unlike the super soldier Steve Rogers. Avery aims to keep the film grounded so audiences see how Sam Wilson would realistically handle being a symbol of America without superpowers.
By grounding the film, Avery wants to craft a story where audiences see themselves in Sam Wilson’s struggle. ‘Captain America: Brave New World‘ seems primed to deliver a uniquely character-driven adventure for the new Captain when it releases.
