Charlie Cox, who is back as Marvel’s slick vigilante street hero in ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ Season 2, recently compared Matt Murdock and Karen Page‘s dynamic to that of Spider-Man and MJ.
Karen returns in the latest season of ‘Born Again,’ actively resuming her relationship with Murdock. Mayor Fisk continues with his shady schemes, Cherry almost dies, and the last bit of suspense has a major Bullseye twist. It’s everything unpredictable, and makes us wonder if there’s a happy ending for Page and Murdock’s ‘will they, won’t they‘ situation!
Why Karen Page Is Matt Murdock’s Version of Mary Jane Watson

On the Daredevil: Born Again Podcast, Charlie Cox suggested that Murdock sees Karen Page like Peter Parker does with MJ: “It would be very tough to make an argument that there’s any other romantic character that is more important to Matt Murdock than Karen Page in the comics and in our show.”
There are a lot of natural parallels between the two vigilante Marvel superheroes. Both lead double lives while fighting crime in New York. Daredevil even had a cameo in the 2021 ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which paved the way for his own show.
Another factor that ties the two heroes together is their love interests. Karen doesn’t just play into the superhero girlfriend arc, be it in the comics or the series. She acts as the moral compass, emotional pillar, and sometimes significant plot steerer. You see this with MJ in Spider-Man…well, excluding Kirsten Dunst’s MJ in the 2000s, who was very much in the background of the action.
Page and Murdock danced around each other so much in the 2015 Netflix series that you can’t help thinking about the what-ifs of them finally getting back together as the story grows in ‘Born Again.’ So Cox’s comparison seems fitting.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Changes Matt Murdock

‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ saw some major turning points in Matt Murdock’s life. You see Matt Murdock compromise his closely guarded rules surrounding killing the criminals every time somebody tests his limits. This happens when he attempts to kill Bullseye as revenge for Foggy’s death.

The new season has Daredevil slip back into his masked vigilante role with a new comic-accurate suit (thank the fans for making that happen). He and Karen seek to counter Fisk and his martial law. We see a lot of familiar faces as well, including the much-anticipated return of Jessica Jones. She turns out to be a big help to Matt and Karen in their quest to clean up New York City of evildoers.
As for Page, things seem hopeful. Season 2 has already teased her centre-stage role, and fans are certainly hoping for her relationship with Matt to get a real shot. The only time we got some semblance of a love equation with the two was in the 2015 ‘Daredevil’ series. But Matt’s secret pulled them apart. In ‘Born Again‘ Season 1, it was grief that separated them.
Finally, Season 2 has a chance of doing this much-loved couple justice, and Cox’s comparison is definitely fueling the optimism! He also wants to see Daredevil join the Avengers. But that’s a wish for another time.
