After Years of wielding Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, Chris Hemsworth is gazing back at one of the most controversial periods in the history of Thor with a refreshing sense of honesty.
The actor recently acknowledged that ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ might have gone too far with the comedy, and those who experienced tonal whiplash were not mistaken. A Marvel hero rarely admits to creative missteps. Yet, Hemsworth is all the more striking in his open reflection.
Chris Hemsworth Reflects On Thor’s Comedy Era

In an interview with the SmartLess podcast, Hemsworth described the tone of ‘Love and Thunder’ as a Monty Python sketch, indicating that the improv-heavy humor of the film might have crossed into the realm of fun and farce. That introspection reflects remarks he had earlier made regarding the fact that he felt like he had turned into a parody of Thor in the film.

“There was this real kind of, ‘Why is he a goofball and why is it like this?’” he stated. The criticism was not subtle when the film was released. ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ successfully revitalized the franchise with irreverence and humor. However, its follow-up could not balance jokes with the serious content. To most viewers, the emotional tension was never left unpunchlined.
The difference was particularly major in the light of Thor in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Those movies touched upon his sorrow, conscience, and depression following the loss of Asgard and the inability to defeat Thanos. Watching that deeply scarred warrior pivot into near-constant slapstick was jarring. Hemsworth seems to recognize that now.
The God of Thunder Is Ready To Feel Mythic Again

The good news for longtime fans? Change appears to be coming. Hemsworth will reappear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and initial shots indicate a more serious, battle-toughened Thor.
The teaser depicts him praying to Odin, and he appears to be serious. It feels closer to the mythic Avenger who stood against Thanos than the lovestruck hero of his last solo outing.

‘Doomsday’ is turning out to be an enormous event, and familiar faces such as Chris Evans are coming back, and Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom. It is in that context that a more grounded Thor makes sense. The stakes are rising once again, and so should the tone.
