Since making her debut as Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Maria Hill in 2012’s ‘The Avengers‘, Cobie Smulders has become a familiar face within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the character met her demise during the Disney+ series ‘Secret Invasion‘, leaving fans to question if they could see the actress return.
However, With the multiverse being fully explored and time travel established, fans know that Marvel can bring back any character even after killing them off. In a recent interview, Smulders opened up about potentially reprising her iconic role.
Cobie Smulders Is Open To Make A Return In MCU
‘How I Met Your Mother’ star made her thoughts clear on returning the character, saying “I would love to go back, but I have no idea what they have in store for the future of Marvel or my character at this point“.
Reflecting on playing Hill for over a decade, Smulders said she really enjoyed the experience. “Maria Hill was such a fun character to inhabit. She was a total badass and it was awesome to be part of the Marvel universe“.
She continued, “The action scenes were also really fulfilling to film. I trained hard to do as many of my own stunts as possible“. Smulder has done a great job as a close ally to Nick Fury. Smulders relished the challenge of portraying a high-ranking member of the secret organization.

How Maria Hill Can Make A Comeback In MCU?
When Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill was killed off in the ‘Secret Invasion,’ fans were very upset and believed the creators did her dirty. Her character had a lot of potential but was portrayed as the side-kick to Nick Fury.
Marvel has many times fixed their older mistakes and they can do this time too. With the multiverse in play, an alternate version of Hill from another universe could appear along with the alternate universe’s Avengers.
Cobie Smulders is open to whatever Marvel has planned. She said, “I trust Kevin Feige and his team to do right by these characters if they visit them again. If they think Hill fits into future stories, I’m here and ready“. Only time will tell if Maria Hill makes a shocking return to the MCU down the line.
