Cyclops Finally Takes Center Stage As ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Brings X-Men Into MCU’s Endgame

Marvel Studios has just unveiled one of the boldest trailer reveals ever. The third teaser for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ didn’t just spotlight Robert Downey Jr.’s shocking return as Doctor Doom; it finally opens the door to the Fox-era X-Men in a way that feels purposeful, dramatic, and loaded with consequence.

Instead of a brief appearance in the multiverse, this trailer indicates that the X-Men are the very center of the Multiversal endgame. And by making the footage focus on major mutant icons, Marvel is making a very obvious statement: ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is not just another crossover, but a payoff.

The latest teaser does not center on the Avengers themselves but on the holy mutant land: the X-Mansion. The mere sight of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters brings to mind two decades of movie history, and Marvel is aware of it. The trailer is filled with silent, threatening scenes of the mansion halls, and only then does it show the appearance of three mythical characters. The first character is Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), who wears a blue jacket with a bold black-and-red X insignia on it.

The next character is Magneto, played by Ian McKellen, who has much longer hair, marking the first major redesign of the character since his original appearance in 2000. The visual itself is an indication that it is not just a nostalgic reprise, but a new chapter. However, the most electric scene is that of the Cyclops played by James Marsden. After years of fans arguing he was underserved in the original films, Scott Summers finally appears mid-battle, clad in a comic-accurate costume and unleashing a devastating optic blast against a Sentinel.

It is a very short moment, yet it has a gigantic weight. This is not a sidelined supporting player, but Cyclops as a battlefield leader. The emotional climax of the trailer is when Magneto and Professor X are depicted reuniting, standing side by side as the disaster is about to happen. The teaser concludes with a stark text: The X-Men Will Return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. No jokes. Just a promise. Instead of making the X-Men appear as guests, Marvel makes them look like key participants in the climax of the Multiverse Saga.

How Earlier Trailers Set The Stage For ‘Doomsday’

This X-Men-centered teaser hits even more due to what Marvel has already demonstrated. Every ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ trailer focuses on a specific aspect of the Marvel legacy. The initial trailer was a shockwave as it unveiled Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers. Marvel did not clarify how or what version of Steve, but his appearance alone, with his kid, redefined the film as a farewell to the Infinity Saga era rather than a clean break from it.

In case you missed it: ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Might Be Turning Thor Into MCU’s Ultimate Sacrifice

The second trailer changed gears and focused on Chris Hemsworth‘s return as Thor. That preview was very much scale-driven, reminding viewers that even gods are praying under Doom’s cosmic level threats. The addition of his adopted daughter, Love, further promises a look into a more emotional and mature Thor rather than the one we saw in ‘Love and Thunder’. Thor’s inclusion reinforced the idea that Doomsday sits at the crossroads of magic, science, and destiny. Now, with the X-Men reveal, the pattern is clear. Marvel isn’t just assembling a team, it’s assembling eras.
