Ahead of the much-anticipated debut of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ on Disney+ this March, Charlie Cox, the face behind Matt Murdock, has shared an intriguing revelation: if he weren’t busy as the MCU’s Man Without Fear, he’d be game to jump to the DC Universe.
While most actors either want to play Batman or Superman, Cox has a more villainous plan. The actor wants to take on the role of the iconic Joker in James Gunn’s DCU.
Charlie Cox Wants To Play Joker In The DCU
Charlie Cox first became ‘Daredevil’ in 2015, earning widespread acclaim for his portrayal of the blind lawyer-turned-vigilante. After Netflix’s Marvel shows were canceled, fans feared they’d seen the last of him in the role. However, Marvel Studios brought Cox back into the fold with cameos.

Now, with at least two seasons of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ confirmed, Cox’s future in the Marvel Universe looks bright. Yet, during a panel at a Fan Expo, the actor offered a glimpse into an alternate career path, one that would see him step into DC’s dark and twisted world.
At the panel, Cox was asked which DC character he’d like to play if given the chance. His answer? None other than the Clown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker. “I wouldn’t want to take it on based on the actors you have in the past because they’re so brilliant, but I was thinking like, the Joker would be a lot of fun,” Cox admitted.
He went on to praise Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning portrayal in The Dark Knight, saying, “Heath Ledger for me nailed that part, obviously. If you could find a new take on it in some way, that would be cool.” The idea of Cox as the Joker is both surprising and intriguing. Moreover, the Joker’s chaotic energy and maniacal unpredictability contrast sharply with Daredevil’s quiet determination and grounded personality. So, his take on the Joker could be interesting, to say the least.
Charlie Cox Admits He Had No Idea Who ‘Daredevil’ Was Before Landing The Role
While Charlie Cox’s potential DCU aspirations spark curiosity, his journey to becoming ‘Daredevil’ is equally compelling. During the same panel, the actor made a surprising confession: before landing the role, he had no idea who Daredevil was. “I didn’t even know about him,” Cox admitted with a laugh.

“I’d never heard of him. I genuinely, like, when you said ‘Daredevil,’ I thought you were talking about a noun. Like a mountaineer or a rock climber or like someone who jumps through fire hoops on a motorcycle. You know, that’s who I thought Daredevil was.” Cox wasn’t alone in his ignorance.
Wilson Bethel, who played Bullseye in Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’, shared a similar story: “Same answer, yeah. I didn’t know Bullseye was a thing.” Despite his initial unfamiliarity, Cox’s dedication to the role quickly won over fans and critics alike. Additionally, over the past decade, he has transformed Daredevil into one of the MCU’s most beloved and enduring heroes.
