The first day on set with Deborah, myself, and Elden was really special because the scene that was written was like a scene where we were reminiscing over old times and all the things we’ve done,” Cox told in an interview with EW. “And it just so happened that we shot that very early on and we hadn’t seen each other for years“. While the conversation originated from the scene, Cox noted that the emotions were very real as the cast was catching up after so long apart.

D’Onofrio also commented on noticing no difference between real conversations between cast members and scenes written to call back to the past. Cox then revealed that real props were utilized from the original Netflix seasons. “Deborah and I had a scene where we find an old box. Am I allowed to say that? I think I can say that,” Cox stated. “We had a scene where we were looking through a box and we find stuff from the past, and it was real stuff from the past.”

Cox appreciates the depth provided by maintaining the character histories established in the Netflix seasons. “But at the same time, it can be an enemy, because that is the stuff that’s left behind you as you go forward and then you’re tied to it,” Cox said. The writers did well to allow the history while avoiding sticking to the past too much.

Woll assured fans that “our history stands” with what came before still impacting who the characters presently are. “What the characters went through still exists, that’s still part of who they are, it’s just that now we’re catching up with them at a different point in their lives,” she said. The cast is clearly eager to embrace both new and old fans alike when ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ premieres on Disney+ in 2025.
