The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always excelled at interconnecting universes. However, with ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, it seems the studio is diving deeper into a grittier, more personal type of storytelling.
Now, there’s speculation that the show could very well be laying the groundwork for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. And if this theory holds up, fans may be in for a treat.
Kingpin’s Anti-Vigilante Crusade Is The Right Comic Storyline To Pull Spider-Man Back In The Mix

‘Born Again’ marks the return of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock after his much-loved run on Netflix. However, this time, the stakes are different. New York is no longer just the playground of the Avengers. It’s a city in turmoil, politically, socially, and morally. And the decisions being made in the mayor’s office could have consequences far beyond Hell’s Kitchen.

This storyline is perfect for Peter Parker’s entry. Following the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, Peter is in the loneliest place we’ve ever seen him. He is completely unknown, without friends, resources, or allies. It’s a devastating reset and the perfect setup for a ‘Brand New Day’. While the comic storyline of the same name was controversial, it dealt with rich emotional and political themes.
Now, many of the themes echo through ‘Born Again’. At the heart of the show is Wilson Fisk’s rise to power. Fisk has managed to become the Mayor of New York City. And he’s not playing nice. His campaign focused heavily on demonizing vigilantes, those masked heroes who, in his words, “endanger the public and sow chaos.”
Being An Unknown Vigilante, Spider-Man Is In As Much Trouble As Daredevil

Spider-Man has always walked a tightrope between public adoration and media-driven hysteria. J. Jonah Jameson’s smear campaigns are a staple of Spidey’s story. But what if public opinion turns into legal action? What if Peter is no longer just misunderstood but hunted? This brings us to ‘Brand New Day’.
In the comics, that arc follows the emotional fallout of ‘One More Day’, where Peter makes a deal with Mephisto to save Aunt May. He sacrificed his marriage to Mary Jane and erased the world’s memory of his identity to do so. The result is a Peter Parker with a clean slate. However, the city now sees Spider-Man as a menace. We’re already seeing signs of this in the MCU.
‘No Way Home’ ends with Peter living in a tiny apartment, making a DIY suit, and returning to low-level heroics. He’s anonymous again, but not safe. ‘Born Again’ introduces a New York where the legal system is actively cracking down on people like him. The pieces are on the board. Now, it’s just a matter of time before they collide.
Daredevil And Spider-Man Can Once Again Team Up For More Than A Cameo

One of the most exciting prospects of this theory is the possibility of seeing Daredevil and Spider-Man team up again, not just as crime-fighters, but as survivors. Both Matt and Peter are now men on the run, haunted by loss, and being hunted. Their dynamic has always been compelling. They’ve fought together, disagreed morally, and at times, saved each other’s lives.

In ‘No Way Home’, we saw a glimpse of this with Matt advising Peter on legal trouble, a moment that thrilled fans. But thanks to Doctor Strange’s spell, Matt no longer remembers Peter Parker. Still, that doesn’t mean their paths can’t cross again. Imagine a scenario where Spider-Man is arrested under Fisk’s new anti-vigilante law. Who better to defend him than Matt Murdock?
There’s also the potential for a more action-heavy team-up. If Kingpin’s grip tightens, it may fall to the city’s few remaining vigilantes to take him down. Peter and Matt could rise as the last line of defense for the innocent. Additionally, the timing lines up perfectly. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is expected to release its second season in 2026. This is right around when the next Spider-Man movie could drop.
What’s exciting about all of this is the shift in tone for the MCU. For years, the universe has dealt with gods, aliens, and timelines. But now, we’re returning to something more intimate. More human.‘Born Again’ isn’t about saving the multiverse. It’s about saving neighborhoods. It’s about the pain of being a hero in a world that doesn’t want you. Moreover, Peter Parker’s story has always thrived when the stakes are close to home. So, while Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything, all the clues are there.
