‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Is Staying Street-Level And That’s A Good Thing

In a cinematic universe bursting with multiversal crises and globe-trotting heroes, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is deliberately staying grounded.

Before season 2, showrunner Dario Scardapane answered the question that many Marvel fans have been posing: why not fully cross over to the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe? The short answer? This story is better in the shadows.

‘Born Again’ Doesn’t Need The Avengers To Succeed

Scardapane referred to the bigger MCU as uptown, and Daredevil’s world is squarely downtown. It’s a clever metaphor. As the Avengers deal with alien invasion and cosmic menaces, Matt Murdock is dealing with corruption, crime syndicates, and grey morality in Hell’s Kitchen. Yes, crossovers exist. Charlie Cox has already appeared in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, and the bridging tissue between Marvel projects is never absent.

We kind of have a pocket that’s in this world of Hell’s Kitchen, in this world of New York. I always think that maybe these characters take little vacations into the larger world, but the story that we’re focusing on is really granular,” Scradapane told Deadline.

However, ‘Born Again’ is not meant to spin around those bigger arcs. Instead, it zooms in. And honestly? Intimacy is its superpower. Daredevil has never been out of place in the streets. Bruised knuckles. Flickering neon lights. Courtroom drama. The tension doesn’t come from portals in the sky; it comes from choices made in dark alleys. Maintaining the granularity of the storyline is what maintains the tone that made the original Netflix run so popular.

Daredevil Is Choosing Hell’s Kitchen Over the Multiverse

Naturally, fans are constantly speculating. As ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ approaches, and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher reportedly heads to the big screen, many thought that Cox would be back as Daredevil. Even Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum alluded to the coordination of projects to maintain continuity.

The door isn’t closed. It’s just not the priority. Cox himself has played down the rumors, explaining that he is not appearing in ‘Brand New Day’ or ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ either. For now, his focus remains squarely on Matt’s journey in season 2. And that moderation could be invigorating.

‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ is not afraid to stand on its own in a franchise that has been accused of being over-connected. It does not get absorbed by the bigger universe but recognizes it. Because not every hero needs to save the world. Some just need to save their neighborhood, and that’s more than enough.
