There are a few scenes in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ that have struck as hard, or as unexpectedly, as Foggy Nelson’s death. To fans, it was outrageous. However, for the story, it was characterizing.
Yet, behind the scenes, the response was not unanimous. In fact, the cast itself is split right down the middle, and that contrast says a lot about just how impactful the decision really is.
Foggy Nelson Actor Elden Henson Saw Beauty In Tragedy

To Elden Henson, the man who brought Foggy to life, it was not only heartbreaking, but it was something meaningful. When he read the script, Henson did not shudder at the loss. Rather, he enjoyed it. He called the scene really great, and complimented the writing, and the feeling of closure it qa gave the character and his own experience in the role.

“When I read the scene, I actually thought it was a really great scene. I was into it. It’s a bummer when something comes to an end. I don’t know, I felt pretty lucky to have played him, and at least there was some sort of closure,” he shared. Something about that point of view is quietly strong. Not all actors receive a send-off that feels full, and Henson was well aware of the worth in that.
Naturally, it was not that simple. It is never easy to say goodbye to a long-running character. Instead of dwelling on the loss, Henson tapped into gratitude, grateful to have the time and the opportunity to leave on a note that counted. It is a surprisingly down-to-earth, nearly serene response to what most people regarded as an ugly narrative decision.
Charlie Cox And ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Fans Felt The Loss More

On the other side of the emotional spectrum was Charlie Cox, who had a very different experience processing the moment. To him, Foggy’s death was not merely a twist of the plot; it was personal. Cox referred to it as traumatic, both in the narrative and for the actual relationship he has with Henson.

The relationship between Matt Murdock and Foggy has been the heart of the world of Daredevil, after all. “I haven’t read a huge amount of other comics outside of Daredevil, but I struggle to think of a more beautiful, obvious friendship than the Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson friendship. The loss of Foggy and the loss of Elden, my friend on set every day, that’s traumatic. It’s hard,” he shared.
And he’s not wrong. That friendship, the supportive, stabilizing force that Foggy was for him, had been one of the most popular relationships in the Marvel narrative. Getting rid of it alters all. It alienates Matt, makes his journey dark, and increases the emotional stakes in a manner that cannot be overlooked.
Fans, like the cast, are divided. Some view the move as a bold and necessary one. Others believe it deprives the series of a fundamental aspect that made it special in the first place. However, agree with it or not, one thing is certain: Foggy’s death was not just a moment. It was a turning point. And ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ will never be the same after it.
