The creative minds behind ‘Deadpool And Wolverine‘ were out to push the boundaries of absurdity and humor that the franchise is known for. Early concepts for the movie reveal that the beloved mercenary was set to poke fun at the MCU.
Executive producer Wendy Jacobson recently shared details of some wild early drafts. Moreover, these drafts included an outrageous plan to show that Deadpool had always been in the MCU.
Deadpool’s “Hidden” Presence In The MCU
Wendy Jacobson’s revelations make one thing abundantly clear: no idea was off-limits when it came to finding ways to integrate Deadpool into the MCU. One of the most intriguing ideas that didn’t make the final cut was a “deleted scenes extravaganza.” In this iteration, audiences would be treated to a montage of moments showing Deadpool sneaking around iconic MCU events.
“We had Deadpool’s deleted scenes extravaganza where we were going to show that Deadpool was in the MCU all along. His scenes were just on the cutting room floor,” Jacobson told CBR. Imagine Deadpool photobombing Tony Stark’s famous press conference, or getting Smacked by Thor for speaking too much.
This concept would have been a hit for fans who love the chaos Deadpool brings. His snarky commentary against some of the most dramatic moments of the MCU would be almost perfect. However, while this idea would have been a treat, it also ran the risk of disrupting the carefully built continuity.
There Were Several Other Concepts For ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’
Wendy Jacobson’s insights also shed light on other fascinating pitches that were considered for the Merc with the mouth. “I think at one point, we had a very modestly budgeted indie road trip movie with him and Dopinder,” she mentioned. For fans of Dopinder’s hilariously awkward energy, this would have been a delight.

Another idea was a frame-for-frame remake of ‘Thor: The Dark World’ (one of the MCU’s most critically hated movies). It’s hard not to chuckle at the thought of Deadpool using his fourth-wall-breaking powers to let Thor know about the film’s reception.
Jacobson revealed that she put a lot of trust into the creative team and Ryan Reynolds. “I will do anything Ryan wants to do, let’s be clear because I know it’s going to be great,” she emphasized.
This level of trust and creative openness made the Deadpool franchise so unique. While it’s clear that the final product, ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, was the right choice, exploring these early ideas is a fun way to imagine what it might’ve been like.
