“Nothing More Than A Cut And Paste Of Others”: ‘Dune’ Director Denis Villeneuve Thinks Marvel Movies Have Turned Audience Into Zombies

Every director has their own way of critically analyzing a movie. Director Denis Villeneuve made a big statement on the MCU movies. The director has created some great movies like ‘Prisoners‘, ‘Blade Runner 2049‘ and Dune‘ franchise.

There are many filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino who are not fans of Marvel movies. Even Denis Villeneuve thinks all MCU does is mostly ‘cut and paste’ their past variations.

In an interview with El Mundo in 2021, the Canadian director Denis Villeneuve made various comments on how he perceives the MCU. He was asked about his artistic view on movies made with big budgets. To this, he said that the problem with Marvel movies is that they are just “cut and paste” versions of earlier films.

He explained, “Perhaps the problem is that we are in front of too many Marvel movies that are nothing more than a ‘cut and paste’ of others. Perhaps these types of movies have turned us into zombies a bit. But big and expensive movies of great value there are many today. I don’t feel capable of being pessimistic at all.” Movies by directors like Christopher Nolan or James Cameron prove to be worthwhile and big-budget movies are still enjoyable.

Denis continued, “Just think of the golden age of Hollywood to see that commercial films can make a different artistic proposal and, therefore, political. I have never felt like a loss or an impediment to have a generous budget to do what I wanted to do. Upside down. Who said that a movie on a big budget can’t be artistically relevant at the same time? I am currently thinking of people like Christopher Nolan or Alfonso Cuaron.”
