For years, fans have been speculating about how Henry Cavill might fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘The Witcher’ star seemed tailor-made for superhero roles.
He also recently made his MCU debut as a Wolverine variant in ‘Deadpool And Wolverine‘. However, fans couldn’t get enough. Now, rumors suggest he was being eyed for the role of Annihilus, the cosmic warlord from the ‘Nova’ TV series.
Henry Cavill Would’ve Been A Perfect Fit For Annihilus

While fans were ecstatic about the news of Henry Cavill joining the MCU for more than just a cameo with ‘Nova’, Marvel sadly decided to shelve the project. While the show may see the light of day in a different form, Cavill’s potential role as Annihilus is now a tantalizing “what could have been.”

For an actor known for playing heroic icons like Superman and Geralt of Rivia, Annhillus would’ve been a perfect fit. The news, originally shared by insider MyTimeToShineH, claimed that Cavill was being eyed for the motion-capture-heavy role.
Moreover, Marvel’s decision to scrap Nova, at least in its current form, is a disappointing one. The MCU’s cosmic side has been growing with films like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. However, a deep dive into the Nova Corps and the Annihilation storyline could have taken it to another level.
‘Nova’ Would’ve Followed Richard Rider And Sam Alexander’s Battle With Annhillus

The scrapped ‘Nova’ series was expected to introduce audiences to Richard Rider, a key figure in Marvel’s cosmic landscape. According to insider Daniel Richtman, the plot would have followed Rider as he attempted to rebuild the Nova Corps while facing the invasion of Annihilus.

The villain’s army, consisting of countless insectoid warriors, has long been one of Marvel Comics’ most devastating forces. The show would have been the perfect setup for a massive space-faring battle. It would’ve also included a fan-favorite character Sam Alexander.
Additionally, the show was to be set after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, when Thanos destroyed their planet. Moreover, if the show had moved forward, it could have been a game-changer for the MCU. Annihilus’ backstory is deeply tied to the Negative Zone, a dimension he rules with an iron fist. So, his introduction would have opened doors to incredible storytelling opportunities.
