How MCU Is Finally Doing Galactus Justice With ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’

The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ trailer didn’t need to show us Galactus in full to send a chill down our spines. It only took a few brief shots to confirm what fans have been hoping for: Marvel Studios is finally doing Galactus right. For longtime Marvel fans, this isn’t just another big bad. This is the big bad.

Galactus is the cosmic consumer of worlds, a godlike force that doesn’t conquer planets like Thanos but devours them. And yet, when Galactus made his long-awaited debut in ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’ back in 2007, what should have been a cinematic milestone quickly became a punchline.

Galactus Is No Longer A Swirling Cloud Of Disappointment

Instead of the iconic armored giant imagined by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee Galactus was a cloud. A floating, shapeless storm with a vague suggestion of menace but no face, no voice, and no soul. For fans, it was shocking. The studio’s choice to turn Galactus into a swirling mass of space gas felt like a betrayal of everything the character stood for.

Marvel seemed afraid that a huge humanoid figure with purple armor would look silly or cartoonish on screen. However, in trying to make Galactus “realistic,” they erased what made him iconic in the first place. He wasn’t a character, he was a weather pattern. And nobody fears a thundercloud, not in the way they should fear Galactus.

However, now, the MCU is ready to correct that mistake. And it’s doing so by embracing the very thing 2007 feared most: the visibility of Galactus. What’s most impressive is how the MCU is handling Galactus not just as a threat but as a character. He’s not just the final boss, he’s a cosmic figure whose very existence raises questions about morality and the insignificance of human life. By bringing that gravitas to the screen, Marvel can turn one of its oldest failures into one of its greatest triumphs.

The MCU has been building toward this moment for years. From the Celestials in ‘Eternals’ to the multiverse chaos of ‘Loki’ and ‘Doctor Strange’, Marvel has slowly expanded its scope beyond Earth, beyond even the galaxy. And now, with ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’, it’s poised to introduce a threat unlike any it has faced before. Galactus isn’t evil. He’s not driven by hatred or ego. He feeds because he must.

That cold logic makes him far scarier than any megalomaniac. And it’s exactly what the MCU seems to understand. In the newest trailer, we get more than just a sense of scale. A shot of what appears to be Galactus emerging from a massive chamber in deep space hints at a mythology lifted directly from the comics. In the comics, Galactus rests in incubation pods between feedings. His hunger is a cycle that’s inevitable. Moreover, the MCU is pulling from that lore.

This isn’t just about showing Galactus; it’s about respecting him. Marvel is ensuring that Galactus should not be hidden. He should dominate every frame he’s in. And that’s what the old movies got wrong. They tried to downplay him, shrink him into a cloud, and reduce him to a special effect. However, Galactus isn’t meant to feel vague and mysterious. He’s meant to be overwhelming, impossible to ignore, awe-inspiring in the truest sense of the word.
