As ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ remains one of the most anticipated releases of the year, fans are eager to learn more about the film and, of course, catch any early hints about surprise returns. Ian McKellen, who is set to reprise his role as Magneto, may have accidentally revealed a major action sequence during a recent interview.
Fans know that McKellen will once again play Erik Lehnsherr, better known as Magneto, in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster. However, he may have gone a step further by hinting at the scale of destruction his character causes. The actor even laughed about the possible spoiler afterward, seemingly realizing he may have revealed too much.
Ian McKellen’s Magneto Will Destroy New Jersey In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

During his appearance on The Late Show, the 86-year-old actor suggested that the Garden State will be getting a “major renovation” in the film. McKellen revealed that Magneto will be destroying New Jersey and jokingly apologized for his character’s actions. “I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying that Magneto destroys New Jersey,” McKellen said.

He then recreated the moment for Stephen Colbert and the audience, describing how the sequence was filmed. “And the wind is blowing in my hair, and I’m putting on a fierce look, and I’m trying to be magnetic. And the director over the loudspeaker says, ‘Ian, look more furious!’” the veteran actor recalled.
McKellen also revealed that he shouted “Mar-a-Lago” (the private residence of President Donald Trump) after the director asked him to yell the worst thing he could imagine. He later joked about whether he would even be allowed back into the country after saying it.

McKellen’s Magneto has been a major part of the ‘X-Men‘ franchise, appearing in the original ‘X-Men‘ trilogy. He also reprised the role in ‘The Wolverine‘ and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’
