With Marvel expanding their cinematic universe in new ways, one of their upcoming projects is the streaming series ‘Ironheart‘. Based on the comic book character of the same name, the show will introduce audiences to brilliant inventor Riri Williams, played by Dominique Thorne.
Bringing a new hero into the MCU is an ambitious task, but Thorne will have support from a talented cast that includes Anthony Ramos. In a recent interview, Ramos opened up about his role in ‘Ironheart‘ and what fans can expect from the upcoming show.
Anthony Ramos on Becoming A Villain in the MCU
As an established actor who has worked with acclaimed directors and appeared in critically acclaimed projects, Ramos is no stranger to high-profile roles. However, even he was impressed by the trailer for ‘Ironheart‘ he saw at D23.
“I saw a trailer at D23. We walked onstage, and they played this new trailer of Ironheart, and it was my first time seeing it. And I’m not gonna lie, just as a fan, I was like, ‘Yo, this is crazy. If this show is half as good as this trailer, we in the mix,’” he stated. His praise provides optimism that the series will deliver for both Marvel fans and newcomers.
In ‘Ironheart‘ Ramos takes on the enigmatic role of one of the character’s enemies. He plays the villain The Hood, whose powers start to have terrifying physical and mental effects on him.
“I get to play this villain, The Hood, and Parker Robbins in the comics, he gets this hood, and it’s too powerful for him. It’s overwhelming, and it starts to damage his body. You can see it on the outside, and you can see how it’s even affecting him on the inside and his personality and how it’s actually, literally, physically and mentally and emotionally breaking him, but it’s giving him so much power that he’s addicted,” Ramos explained said to The Hollywood Reporter

Ramos went on to discuss the challenging makeup process to portray the corruption of the character. “Jonah [Levy] and his whole team, they were amazing with the tattoos and the scars. They really did a crazy job” he stated.
For fans eager to see a new sinister force clash with ‘Ironheart‘, Ramos’ comments tease an unsettling and complex villain brought to life through committed special effects and his own performance.
Learning From Accomplished Collaborators
With impressive roles in projects like “Hamilton” already under his belt, Ramos has gained valuable experience working with acclaimed talents like Lin-Manuel Miranda. When asked what advice had impacted his career, Ramos mentioned valuable guidance Miranda once gave. He recalled, “‘Yo, you don’t have to change the way you speak. You just gotta make sure people understand you.’ That changed my perspective just in my career in general“.
