The Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading toward one of its most anticipated milestones with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. As Phase 6 gears up to close out The Multiverse Saga, fans are eager to know which of their favorite heroes will return to the big screen.
Among them is one question that refuses to fade: Will Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye appear in the upcoming Avengers movies? After surviving both alien invasions and multiple universe-threatening battles, Clint Barton remains one of the few original Avengers still active in the MCU timeline. Yet, despite the fan hopes, Jeremy Renner recently gave a response that left many a little skeptical.
Jeremy Renner Denies Hawkeye’s Much-Anticipated Future

During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club Power, Jeremy Renner was asked point-blank if he would be appearing in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. The actor didn’t hesitate. His answer was as blunt as it gets, “No. No.” That simple denial immediately set the internet ablaze. Fans began to wonder whether Renner was genuinely confirming his absence or simply dodging spoilers.

When one of the hosts pressed further, asking if he was worried Marvel might replace him with a Hawkeye Variant through the multiverse, Renner took the question in stride and laughed. “If they want to do that, they can go ahead by all means and do that,” he said. “I’m pretty busy myself.” Still, the timing of his answer has many wondering whether the denial is genuine or just another classic Marvel misdirection.
After all, MCU actors have been known to lie about their involvement in upcoming projects due to the strict NDAs. From Andrew Garfield denying ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ to Tatiana Maslany dismissing She-Hulk rumors, fans have learned to take these kinds of statements with a grain of salt. Adding fuel to the speculation, directors Anthony and Joe Russo reportedly wrapped casting for the movie’s ensemble on September 19, 2025.
The initial lineup included several big names and even returning X-Men stars from the Fox-Marvel era. However, many fans noticed that Hawkeye’s name was conspicuously missing from that list. That said, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that more casting announcements are still to come. This means Renner’s denial doesn’t necessarily rule out a surprise return.
Glen Powell Might Be The MCU’s Nova

While fans are still dissecting Renner’s comments, another potential Marvel casting has caught the internet’s attention. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ writer Michael Waldron recently suggested that ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ star Glen Powell would be a great addition to the MCU. Fans have long speculated about who Powell could play, and one name keeps popping up: Nova, the cosmic superhero from Marvel Comics.

With the Nova Corps already established in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, it seems only a matter of time before the legendary Richard Rider joins the cinematic universe. Powell himself, however, insists he hasn’t received any calls from Marvel or DC yet. Speaking to The Playlist in August 2024, he said, “I’ve never gotten a call from DC or Marvel. But I’m a fan of everything they do.” Despite his denial, fans and insiders alike continue to push his name for the role.
The Nova project has had a complicated journey within Marvel Studios since it was announced in March 2022. Unfortunately, on February 20, 2025, Nova, along with Strange Academy and Terror Inc., was put on hold amid Marvel’s internal restructuring. The studio’s new approach is to treat TV series more like traditional shows, with multiple seasons and stronger narrative arcs. Still, fans are hopeful Nova will eventually resume.
