Jeremy Renner’s MCU Return As Hawkeye Is Possible Despite Season 2 Rejection

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had its fair share of ups and downs, with characters and actors moving in and out of the spotlight. However, one name that has remained a constant since Phase One is Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye

Now, recent developments have left fans questioning whether the beloved archer’s journey is truly over. While initial reports suggested that Renner had officially walked away from ‘Hawkeye’ season 2 due to an unsatisfactory offer, new rumors hint at a potential change in trajectory.

Insider Reports Claim Jeremy Renner Is In Active Negotiation With Marvel About Hawkeye

According to recent reports, Jeremy Renner turned down the opportunity to return for ‘Hawkeye’ season 2 after Marvel Studios allegedly offered him half of what he earned for season 1. The offer was particularly disappointing given that the proposed shoot would last around nine months. Renner, in his own words, made it clear that fatherhood trumps franchise loyalty.

My daughter’s the priority. It’s not even a choice. I’m going to be a father to my daughter,” he said. “If they’re going to keep shooting in London or [wherever], it’s not gonna work.” It’s a sentiment that speaks volumes. His willingness to step back for the family is both admirable and deeply human. Additionally, it’s also worth noting that Marvel Studios appears to be shifting its focus, giving more separation between its theatrical films and its Disney+ content.

That may also influence decisions about casting and budgets, especially with established actors like Renner. Yet, despite all of this, there’s a twist: Marvel isn’t quite ready to say goodbye. Insider Daniel Richtman claims that Marvel is still in active negotiations with Renner about season 2. That news has reignited fan hopes that Clint Barton may not be hanging up his bow just yet.

Despite the fallout from the offer, Jeremy Renner hasn’t closed the door completely. When asked about the potential storylines involving Hawkeye and his on-screen brother Barney Barton, Renner’s response was surprising. “Maybe some of that’s true in there, I don’t know. We got into it a little bit storywise and stuff. Everyone was interested in it. I wouldn’t want to say no to that.

He added, “I’m always game to do it, man. It’s a fun world, and I love being part of it.” His words offer relief to fans worried that Clint Barton’s journey might end without a proper send-off. Renner also noted that continuing with Marvel brings indirect benefits to his foundation work. It’s not just about paycheck numbers or screen time as for Renner, the role carries symbolic weight.

His portrayal of Hawkeye has been integral in grounding the MCU’s larger-than-life stories. So, it’s hard to believe that Marvel would allow the character to disappear without one. Moreover, the door to Jeremy Renner’s return as Hawkeye is far from closed. Despite financial disputes and personal priorities, the actor’s emotional connection to the MCU, and the character’s significance to fans, suggest there’s still room for reconciliation.  Whether or not season 2 of Hawkeye moves forward, Clint Barton deserves a fitting finale.
