The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for the conclusion of Phase 5 and the beginning of the second part of The Multiverse Saga with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine‘. This highly anticipated film saw the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine as well as introduce Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool into the MCU timeline, which has been a box office hit so far, being the highest-grossing R-rated movie in its two weeks on the big screen. However, many fans have been left wondering about the planned Avengers films and specifically the involvement of the villain Kang the Conqueror and how Feige will move forward.
In a new interview, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked directly about Kang and his role in the previously announced Avengers films ‘The Kang Dynasty‘ and ‘Secret Wars‘. With only vague answers given about the MCU’s plans so far, fans have been eager to gain some clarity on the future of one of the franchise’s biggest threats.

Is Kang Officially Out Of The MCU?
In an interview with Screen Rant, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked directly about Kang replacing Thanos as the big MCU villain and whether Kang would be part of the MCU going forward, Feige gave a very cloak and dagger response. “I’ve done a number of interviews in the last couple of days, and you’re the first person to, I give you credit for just outright asking the question and I’ll give myself credit for trying to evade it and avoid it entirely“, Feige said.
He neither confirmed it nor denied it, but the way of answering points to the fact that Jonathan Majors as Kang is now long but gone in the MCU with the replacement done by MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

Feige On Hugh Jackman’s Return
When questioned about Hugh Jackman’s role reprising Wolverine after so many years, Feige had high praise. “He’s as great a pairing of an actor and a character there’s ever been” Feige said. He went on to say that despite maintaining the legacy of Jackman’s farewell film Logan, this new version of Wolverine allows them “to delve into a darkness that always comes with the character from the comics“, Feige hinted that Jackman is able to take audiences “to a special place” with his performance.
Fans will have to wait for future MCU announcements to gain any more insight into the plans for Avengers films going forward. For now, Kang the Conqueror’s status as the Phases 6-8 villain looks to be done after Feige’s response and Doctor Doom’s introduction. Marvel Studios continues to keep plot details under tight wraps.
