The road to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is beginning to become very real, and, oddly enough, one of the most thrilling Doctor Doom fights will not be seen on the big screen first.
Rather, a 2026 Marvel: ‘What If…?’ novel is gathering a completely disorganized (in the best sense) team of heroes to take on Victor von Doom before he throws down with the Mightiest Heroes of the Earth.
Doom’s First Major 2026 Fight Isn’t in Theaters
With Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, the expectations are high. But while fans wait to see him clash with teams like the Fantastic Four and the New Avengers, this multiversal book might deliver the most unpredictable Doom fight yet. The lineup of Marvel: ‘What If…The Multiverse Was Doomed?’ seems to be a wishlist: Loki, Scarlet Witch, Venom-Moon Knight, America Chavez, and Kitty Pryde with the Phoenix Force.

Honestly? It’s kind of brilliant. This is not some haphazard mash-up. Both characters are accompanied by immense power or reality-altering possibilities. America Chavez can literally punch through dimensions. The chaos magic of Scarlet Witch can transform life. Kitty Pryde is powered by Phoenix and works on a cosmic level.
Combine the deviousness of Loki and a Khonshu’s fist laced with Venom, and Doom is not dealing with a typical superhero team; he is dealing with insanity. It is also emotionally gratifying to see magical heavy-hitters such as Loki and Wanda on the same battlefield. The fans of the MCU have long desired to see more communication between the characters who act on that mystical level. Even in novel form, this dynamic scratches that itch.
Will This Doom Battle Spill Over To The MCU?
Naturally, as soon as Venom is brought up, there is speculation. The multiverse is now open, and many fans still hope that one day Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock will be able to meet Downey’s Doom. Hardy has already touched the MCU reality, and a fragment of symbiote canonically lingers in that universe. The seeds are there, and whether Marvel will water them or not is another matter altogether.

Nevertheless, had Venom fought Doom in live-action, it would be more appropriate for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ than for ‘Doomsday’. The magnitude of that hyped-up affair is custom-made for the chaos of crossovers and unforeseen alliances. In the meantime, however, this 2026 multiverse confrontation is like the ideal starter for the next cinematic banquet of Marvel. And honestly? It is a comic-book delight to hear Doom attempt to outwit this ridiculously strong team.
