Marvel Studios may be ready to introduce another team of heroes to its expanding cinematic universe. According to a rumor from trusted scooper MTTSH, a live-action series based on the England-based superhero team ‘Excalibur‘ is in development.
If true, this project could serve as the debut for Brian Braddock, aka Captain Britain. Just like Steve Rogers, Brian is a beloved character from Marvel Comics with deep roots in both superhero and X-Men lore.
The UK’s Avengers, ‘Excalibur’ Might Make Their MCU Debut
‘Excalibur‘ first appeared in 1988. This iconic series offered a unique twist on the superhero genre by blending action, British mythology, and humor. The original lineup featured Captain Britain, his partner Meggan Puceanu, and three former X-Men: Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde), Nightcrawler, and Rachel Summers.

Moreover, the team operated primarily in the UK and handled threats that often bridged the supernatural and interdimensional realms. Over the years, Excalibur’s roster and focus have evolved. In the 2008 reboot of ‘Captain Britain and MI13‘, the emphasis shifted to dealing with magical threats.
So, for fans of the comics, a live-action ‘Excalibur’ series represents an exciting opportunity. Additionally, it could also delve into Marvel’s version of Arthurian lore. With the Young Avengers also assembling in the MCU it seems like fans are in for a treat.
“That Would Be Loads Of Fun”: Henry Cavill Is Up For The Captain Britain Role
Rumors about Captain Britain joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been circulating for years. Moreover, MCU boss Kevin Feige himself hinted at discussions about the character. Captain Britain, whose powers are tied to the mystical Amulet of Right, is often portrayed as the UK’s Captain America.

Fans have long speculated about casting for Brian Braddock. Henry Cavill, known for his role as Superman, expressed interest in the role. “I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain, and that would be loads of fun,” Cavill said in a 2021 interview. “I do love being British, and there’s something intriguing about a modernized take on the character.“
If the rumors are true, an ‘Excalibur’ series could open the door for Marvel to explore the intersection of magic. With the success of series like ‘WandaVision’, ‘Agatha All Along’ and ’Loki’, Marvel has demonstrated a willingness to delve into the mystical element of Marvel stories.
