Marvel’s Most Important Sidekick The MCU Never Introduced

Superheroes are the superpowered beings who carry the moral burden of keeping good alive and fighting against evil. Yet, they are rarely alone in any of the adventures. Nearly each one has a sidekick – a character who helps them with their crime-fighting adventures and sometimes personal issues.

There is a famous duo in the Marvel Universe. Together, they have been through many adventures, and even though the sidekick doesn’t have any conventional powers, he has still worked with and helped some of the most powerful beings in the comics. Unfortunately, Marvel decided not to add him to the MCU, and the sidekick was never even remotely mentioned on screen.

The MCU has introduced many Marvel Comics characters. But one superhero stands out from the rest due to his powers and ability to transform into a giant monster that aims to destroy everything in his path. Yes, we are talking about the Hulk. The supersized-green-hero, the Hulk, is among the biggest and strongest characters of the Marvel universe.

Fans know his story of turning into the green monster owing to a freak accident with gamma radiation. The brilliant scientist, Bruce Banner, ended up transforming into this big form owing to the radiation exposure, and gained near invincibility and strength. But there is another aspect of the Hulk that Marvel Studios has not discussed in the movies. Well, Banner did not end up getting transformed of his own accord. Another variable named Rick Jones exists in Bruce Banner’s story.

He was a rebellious teenager who triggered the Gamma bomb that transformed Bruce into the Hulk. Rick’s life changed dramatically as he found himself responsible for the Hulk’s tragedy.

Rick Jones is not a mere side character. He is a driving force for the Avengers in the comics. While helping Banner in his battle against the military, Rick befriended Captain America. Steve Rogers trained him to become the second Bucky Barnes.

Rick also helped Captain Marvel and shared molecules through Nega-Bands with her. This way, he became capable of switching places with her across the Negative Zone.

Despite his fantastic adventures in the comics, Rick Jones is hardly referenced in the MCU. Marvel Studios has not clarified about this huge missing link. But now, it is highly unlikely that we will see Rick Jones as a full-fledged MCU character.
