The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get a whole lot grittier with ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, and fans couldn’t be more excited. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is officially making his MCU debut.
Now, Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum has revealed why Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock seeks him out. Instead of it being a friendly meetup, the Punisher is seen beating up Daredevil. So, the stakes are unknown and at an all-time high.
Brad Winderbaum Claims The Punisher’s Appearances Would Be “Insane”

Frank Castle was last seen at the end of ‘The Punisher’ season 2, disappearing into the shadows to carry out his one-man war against crime. Meanwhile, Matt Murdock has been juggling both his legal career and vigilante alter ego. He represented Happy Hogan in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and fought alongside Jennifer Walters in ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’.

However, things are about to take a dark turn, forcing Daredevil to cross paths with one of the most violent antiheroes. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Winderbaum teased the nature of Daredevil and Punisher’s first meeting in the MCU. He described working with Jon Bernthal as “intense”. Additionally, Brad also revealed that Matt turns to Frank because he needs something done that he is simply unwilling to do himself.
This statement alone hints that ‘Born Again’ will push Matt to the very edge “Matt goes to Frank because he needs something done that he’s unwilling to do. And Frank, a bull in a china shop, drives right to the heart of the matter. As you get later in the season, especially in the culmination, Frank’s appearances are just insane,” Brad explained.
Daredevil And Punisher Could Be A Perfectly Wicked Partnership For A Darker MCU

The first trailer for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ gave fans a glimpse of just how intense the series will be. One standout moment shows Frank Castle attacking Matt with a hatchet the moment they meet. However, Matt, in true Daredevil fashion, manages to talk Frank down before things escalate further.

This moment raises an interesting question: what state of mind is the Punisher in when ‘Born Again’ begins? Judging by his disheveled look and immediate hostility, he may have either sunk even deeper into his violent crusade. He might have even abandoned his Punisher persona altogether.
Whatever the case, Matt seeks him out for a reason. Moreover, now it has been confirmed that the mission for him requires a level of brutality Daredevil himself cannot bring himself to carry out. Adding another layer of intrigue, the trailer hints that Matt may have quit being Daredevil. So, could this be why he ultimately turns to Frank Castle?
