Robert Downey Jr. isn’t entirely against the idea of returning as Marvel’s Iron Man, it seems as the actor reveals he would happily return to Marvel to play the billionaire superhero once again, even as he subtly shaded the role at his 2024 Oscar speech.
When asked by Esquire if he would consider returning to play one of the Avengers again, Downey replied, “Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, ‘Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige.’ It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
Feige, however, has no plans to resurrect Iron Man, who died a heroic death in the last Avengers film, sacrificing his life for humankind. Talking about a possible Iron Man return, Feige said, “We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
Downey’s role as Iron Man is possibly the most integral part of his career as it made him a household name in the industry while also making millions in the process even though he has at times spoken about his dissatisfaction as a Marvel actor. Downey has made ten films with Marvel portraying Tony Stark and remains one of the most crucial parts of the MCU.

Robert Downey Jr Is Finally An Oscar Winner
2024 was probably one of Downey’s best years as he won his first-ever Oscar for his role in ‘Oppenheimer‘ as Lewis Strauss. In his acceptance speech, he thanked his family, Christopher Nolan, and all the critics who criticized his performance over the years. Downey contributed to ‘Oppenheimer‘s Oscar sweep as it took home the most number of wins that night, dominating all the major categories.
As of now, Robert Downey Jr. will return to television with the HBO limited series ‘The Sympathizer‘, marking it as his first big role on television. The trailer looks absolutely promising as the actor takes on a whole new look. It’s a spy-driven black comedy that explores war, politics, history, espionage, and metafiction.
The show is set to release on April 14, 2024.
