Ryan Coogler may not be one to spell out his plans loudly, but his latest tease has sent Marvel fans into a frenzy. As The Multiverse Saga approaches its conclusion and Phase 7 approaches as a reset button to the MCU, Coogler has finally officially confirmed what many had hoped was already underway: ‘Black Panther 3’ is his next film.
However, that is not the whole story. The director also disclosed a surprising inspiration behind ‘Sinners’, his R-rated horror smash-hit, and it is one of the most family-friendly sectors of Disney Channel in the early 2000s.
Ryan Coogler Says His Next Film Is ‘Black Panther 3’

With Marvel Studios about to end the Multiverse Saga, conversations around the MCU’s long-term future are becoming more urgent. At Deadline Contenders, Ryan Coogler was asked the question that has been lingering around him since ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ was released: Is ‘Black Panther 3’ happening? Coogler did not mince words this time. “We’re working on it… We’re working on it hard. It’s the next movie.”

That one sentence has provided fans with a degree of clarity that they have not had in years. After the emotional conclusion of ‘Wakanda Forever’, the mantle of Black Panther was officially Shuri’s. Letitia Wright has already been confirmed to appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which she filmed in September 2025. Moreover, her appearance there will probably influence Wakanda’s story in the next standalone movie.
However, ‘Black Panther 3′ arrives at a fascinating moment in MCU continuity. Phase 7 is rumored to be the reset following the reality-altering events of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. That could mean a Wakanda changed, expanded, or even reimagined. Additionally, one of the most electric developments surrounding the film is the confirmation that Denzel Washington is being shaped into the story. Coogler has been developing a role for him, a fact the actor casually verified earlier this year with a hint: “That’s between me and Ryan.”

While Marvel plans unfold, Coogler’s other major success, ‘Sinners’, continues to dominate both the box office and award conversations. The film has achieved a 97% critics rating and earned over 367 million dollars globally, making it one of the highest-grossing horror movies of all time. Now, Coogler shared his inspiration behind the film: 2001’s ‘The Luck of the Irish’

In the same panel, Coogler revealed the origin of the Irish vampire, Remmick, played brilliantly by Jack O’Connell. “There was a small Irish community in The Bay, and we would talk about it. That movie was a touchpoint for us. We’ve been fascinated with that culture in my family.” Remmick by Jack O’Connell is not just a monster. He is a complex immigrant who has strong roots in music, dance, and a culture that was formed way before colonialism.
Coogler revealed that both he and O’Connell poured personal history into the character, Coogler with memories of his uncle, O’Connell with memories of his father. Their cooperation provides Remmick with a ghostly humanity that critics have hailed as award-worthy. In fact, O’Connell is already generating serious Oscar buzz for Best Supporting Actor. Coogler also mentioned another Irishman, Bram Stoker, as a significant influence.
