Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he was “mortified” to have to cut Rob McElhenney‘s cameo from the highly anticipated film ‘Deadpool and Wolverine.’ In a heartfelt Instagram post, Reynolds explained that the decision to cut out the cameo wasn’t an easy one.

Reynolds expressed his deep admiration for McElhenney’s talent and friendship. “While editing a movie, they say you “sometimes have to kill your darlings.” And with a heavy heart (and through great outside intervention) I had to kill a darling with this cameo,” Ryan wrote. He described McElhenney as a “darling” friend whose cameo was initially kept in the film for as long as possible despite it not working out.

Rob was supposed to be a TVA soldier that Deadpool pruned into the void using the soldier’s time stick itself. Reynolds revealed that the decision to cut the cameo was a difficult one. Additionally, he explained that the sequence did not fit into the film’s overall structure and it was impossible to make it work.

Moreover, even under the guise of a TVA mask and helmet, Reynolds noted that McElhenney’s talent shone through. “Because even under a TVA mask and helmet, you can feel him smoldering with a raw and almost infinite reservoir of talent, writerly wit,” he added. Reynolds also credited McElhenney with introducing him to the “love of his life”, Wrexham AFC.

He further expressed his gratitude for McElhenney’s unwavering support and friendship, which helped him navigate the stressful process of making ‘Deadpool and Wolverine.’ “When I see Rob, my heart rate slows and my nervous system stops yelling at me. He shows up for people. And he showed up for me,” the actor wrote.

In the same Instagram post, Ryan Reynolds expressed his desire for Rob McElhenney to portray the iconic Marvel character Hydra Bob in a future Deadpool film. “p.s. Rob would make an awesome Hydra Bob. @marvelstudios,” he wrote. Additionally, while Hydra Bob has yet to make his live-action debut, he has been a prominent figure in the Deadpool comics for years.

Moreover, Bob is a recurring character in the Deadpool series known for his absurdly large and muscular physique. He is a member of the terrorist organization HYDRA and serves as a henchman to their leader, Baron Zemo. Additionally, despite his intimidating appearance, Hydra Bob is often portrayed as a dim-witted and easily manipulated individual.

Reynolds’ endorsement of McElhenney for the role is not surprising, given their close friendship and his appreciation for Rob’s talents. Fans of the Deadpool series are eagerly awaiting the return of the Merc and the addition of Hydra Bob would undoubtedly add a layer of excitement and humor to the film.
