Why Did Ryan Reynolds Use Prosthetics To Play Wade Wilson?
Ryan Reynolds’ character Wade Wilson goes through experimental cancer treatment to treat his terminal cancer in the film’s narrative. The treatment leaves him with a scarred face, as a result of a serum that accelerates healing factors and ends up disfiguring his face.
The face also serves as a metaphor for his psychological trauma and the transformation from a normal person to a superhero.
Deadpool’s look was inspired by Sin City, but the filmmakers didn’t want him to be compared to the infamous villain Freddy Krueger. Applying the final makeup took several hours, requiring nine silicone prosthetics to cover Reynolds’s skull.
