The highly anticipated fourth film of the MCU Spider-Verse ‘Spider-Man 4’ is still far from entering production, with reports suggesting that script issues are the primary reason for the delay.
Moreover, according to the reports, Sony and Marvel Studios are under immense pressure to surpass the multiverse-spanning success of the previous installment ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, which is leading to delays.
Marvel And Sony Aim High With ‘Spider-Man 4,’ Delaying Production
According to insider Daniel Richtman, the writing team is still hard at work on the script, and a finalized shooting draft has yet to emerge. “With sky-high expectations following the success of No Way Home, Feige and Sony felt the pressure to step up their game and deliver something even better,” he revealed.

The movie is slated for a July 24, 2026 release, with filming set to begin in August 2025. However, production delays remain a possibility. The road to ‘Spider-Man 4’ has been rocky. Previously, reports suggested Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and Sony’s Tom Rothman have debated the scope of the film.
Feige wanted a more grounded story, dialing back the multiverse chaos that dominated ‘No Way Home.’ Whereas, Rothman has pushed for another high-stakes event featuring returning Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. So, the film is now expected to balance a grounded narrative with select multiverse elements.
Tom Holland Om His Vision For ‘Spider-Man 4’
The creative process also appears to involve Spider-Man himself. Tom Holland, who has expressed his determination to protect the legacy of the Spider-Man franchise, also wants the fourth film to live up to its predecessor. “We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect,” Holland shared while talking to Deadline.

“The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing.” This collaborative effort to “do the right thing” might just serve us fans another banger. Moreover, both Sony and Marvel have remained tight-lipped about the specifics. The overarching goal, it seems, is to craft a story that feels fresh and is up to the mark.
