Ever since ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ announced that Sadie Sink would become a part of its cast, the speculation has been going wild. The most widely accepted theory is centered on Jean Grey, one of the most iconic and powerful mutants in Marvel’s history.
It is a thrilling concept, no doubt, as the MCU gradually develops into a bigger X-Men presence. However, there’s a catch. Marvel has been utterly silent regarding Sink’s role, and that silence leaves the door open to something much more unexpected. What if she isn’t playing Jean Grey at all?
What If Sadie Sink Isn’t Jean Grey?

There’s a certain pattern Marvel has followed over the years. The studio does not necessarily follow the biggest and most obvious names. Instead, they tend to introduce lesser-known characters and develop them into something memorable.
That is what makes the other possibility seem quietly compelling, although it has not garnered the same headlines.

Firestar is one of the characters that surprisingly fits into this mystery. Firestar is not as recognizable as Jean Grey. Yet, she occupies a niche in the history of Marvel.
She was originally a character in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and is directly connected to the world of Spider-Man. That two-fold relationship makes her a perfect bridge character, particularly in a story like ‘Brand New Day’.
Sadie Sink’s Mystery Character Might Be Marvel’s Smartest Surprise Yet

As Peter Parker struggles with some strange alterations to his powers, possibly caused by radiation or mutation, Firestar’s powers could naturally fit into the story. Her power set, based on manipulating radiation, isn’t just visually interesting; it could be central to the plot itself. The idea is also refreshing.

Marvel can be more subtle in its approach and introduce a character who can develop with Peter instead of overshadowing him by introducing a massive character like Jean Grey in a Spider-Man movie. It keeps the focus grounded, but at the same time expands the universe. And then there is the human side of it.
The introduction of a new character like Firestar would introduce a new element into Peter’s life, be it as a friend, a possible love interest, or just someone who knows what it is like to have powers that do not always act the way they are supposed to. Naturally, nothing is established yet. However, if Marvel decides to do so, it would not be a mere casting choice. It could be the beginning of something important for the future of the MCU.
