Over the last twenty years, live-action Spider-Man narratives have been based on a single name: Peter Parker. From Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, to Tom Holland’s Webslinger, the friendly neighborhood heroes have never changed their identity under the mask.
However, 2026 is slowly redefining that rulebook. Even before ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ lifts its legs into theatres, there will be another project that will make history, and it signals a major shift in how the character is handled on screen.
Spider-Man’s 2026 Shift Explained

Instead of adhering to the classic interpretation of Spider-Man, the live-action series centers on Ben Reilly, a clone of Peter Parker. That is why ‘Spider-Noir’ is the first live-action Spider-Man project in the English language that is not based on Peter Parker.

It is a huge emotional milestone. Peter has been the mainstay of all cinematic Spider-Man worlds over the years. It is audacious to have another character bear the legacy, perhaps even long overdue. The only real precedent? In 1978, Japan had a Spider-Man series based on Takuya Yamashiro, rather than Peter Parker. But in Hollywood? This is new territory.
‘Spider-Noir’ Might Mark The Beginning Of A Greater Change

Peter Parker is not going anywhere with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continuing to provide Holland with his fourth solo MCU appearance.
However, the door is evidently opening wider. The animated Spider-Verse movies produced by Sony already demonstrate that audiences are ready to see other Spider-heroes, in particular, Miles Morales.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has also indicated that Miles will not be able to make his live-action debut until some of the projects are finished.
In the meantime, producer Amy Pascal suggested that once Holland’s next film and the upcoming animated sequel arrive, Miles could finally leap into live-action. If that occurs, ‘Spider-Noir’ can be remembered as the point of change.
