Steven Yeun Will Not Star In Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’. Here’s Why

The SAG-AFTRA strikes caused a significant upheaval in Hollywood with several writers and actors on strike. The production of many films got delayed. One of these films was Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts‘. While the movie was originally slated for a release in July 2024, it will now hit the screens in July 2025. There were rumors that the ‘Beef‘ star Steven Yeun would be suiting up for the project, but it all fell through.

The news of Yeun’s involvement circulated earlier this year, though Marvel never officially confirmed the casting. However, The Hollywood Reporter has now stated that Yeun would no longer be a part of the film.

Steven Yeun is already busy with several high-profile projects like the voice star in Amazon’s ‘Invincible’. His Netflix limited series, ‘Beef’ also earned critical acclaim and won him Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. Moreover, Yeun is also serving as an executive producer for Beef, which also made him the recipient of an Emmy nomination for outstanding limited series.

Other than being a part of the Marvel production, Yeun is diversifying his career with projects like Bong Joon Ho’s ‘Mickey 17′ and Kristen Stewart’s Sundance feature ‘Love Me’. With so much on his plate, many are speculating that Yeun may have decided to skip ‘Thunderbolts’ as a strategic move.

Some suggest that as he is slowly rising to global fame, he might want to direct some focus on maintaining a diverse portfolio of roles instead of limiting himself to the superhero genre. Fans on social media are buzzing with theories as to why Yeun might have decided to take a step back.

In fact, many fans are also debating about the challenges that the recent industry strikes have posed for major talents in Hollywood. Though neither the Marvel authorities nor Yeun himself has given any official statement about his decision to leave the movie, it is officially confirmed that he won’t be a part of it.

Marvel Studios’ ‘Thunderbolts’ has been a highly anticipated movie as the fans eagerly await the cast lineup. Steven Yeun is one of the rumored names for the film, but he unfortunately would not be gracing the Marvel film. Because Marvel never formally announced the possibility of Yeun being a part of the Marvel film, the validity of initial reports is also under scrutiny.
