‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Post-Credit Scenes Confirm Their Involvement In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ And Tease Doctor Doom’s Arrival

Marvel Studios has struck again, this time with ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, a film that not only reintroduces the beloved superhero team into the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also lays the groundwork for the Multiverse Saga’s most dangerous villain yet.

The movie’s post-credit scenes, true to Marvel tradition, go far beyond fan service. They are swarming with implications for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, ‘Secret Wars’, and even the identity of Marvel’s next universe-defining character.

First Steps’ has earned praise as one of the strongest Phase 6 entries so far. However, what truly has fans buzzing are the film’s two post-credit scenes. One teases the long-awaited arrival of Doctor Doom, while the other is a nostalgic homage to the team’s 1960s comic origins. The first post-credit scene, which plays midway through the credits, is set four years after the events of ‘First Steps’.

It shows Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm reading to a slightly older Franklin Richards, a character whose comic book counterpart is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe. As Sue briefly leaves to find a book, Franklin is suddenly joined by a shadowy figure who is none other than Doctor Doom. Doom’s face is never revealed, which only adds to the intrigue. Additionally, it raises serious questions about where this Doom comes from.

Is he from Earth-828, where First Steps takes place? Adding to the tension is Franklin’s potential. Throughout ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, the film teases the extent of his abilities. These are powers so significant that even Galactus sought them. Now it appears Doctor Doom is the next to covet them. His interest in Franklin isn’t just out of curiosity; it’s strategic.

It might be the key to controlling or even shaping entire realities. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on the horizon, it’s safe to assume that Doctor Doom’s role will be more central than any villain since Thanos. And it’s not just fan speculation fueling the fire as the words “The Fantastic Four will return in Avengers: Doomsday” flash right after the mid-credits scene. So, their direct involvement in the next major Marvel chapter is confirmed.

‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Honors Jack Kirby’s Legacy

The final post-credit scene takes a different tone. It’s lighter, but no less meaningful. After the touching tribute to Jack Kirby, Marvel’s legendary co-creator of the Fantastic Four, a cartoon plays on a television screen in the Baxter Building. This fictional in-universe cartoon captures the essence of 1960s superhero shows. More than a simple gag, the cartoon is packed with Marvel Easter eggs.

Hidden among the colorful chaos are visual references to lesser-known villains like Gargoyle and Draconus, and possibly even a Sentinel, which is a nod to the X-Men universe. The animation even features a recurring gag from the film: Ben Grimm’s iconic “It’s clobberin’ time!” line. This scene is more than just playful nostalgia. It reinforces the setting of Earth-828, a universe inspired by Jack Kirby’s design ethos.

It’s a heartfelt way to honor a man whose creative legacy gave birth to much of the Marvel Universe we know today. Despite its lighter tone, this cartoon segment still carries significance. It acknowledges the multiverse concept in a fun way. Additionally, it reinforces that even in this universe, the Fantastic Four are cultural icons. It also hints that their actions have become legendary.
