For months, fans braced themselves for the possibility that Chris Hemsworth might soon hang up the hammer. As ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ are about to bring the Multiverse Saga to its end, it seemed like the ideal, and also the saddest, time to have Thor make his last stand.
But now? The storm clouds are parting.
Thor’s Next Chapter Might Be His Biggest Yet

Recently, Hemsworth has indicated that he will reprise the role as the God of Thunder a few more times, and not just for ‘Doomsday’. For a character who has already spanned nearly 15 years of the MCU, that’s no small statement. On the contrary, it indicates that Thor is not approaching a conclusion; he might be preparing to be reinvented.

With the current course of Marvel Studios, a fifth solo Thor movie would probably come after ‘Secret Wars’ alters the MCU timeline. That in itself suggests something: Thor does not die. It would be hollow to kill him off and bring him back after the reset. And if Marvel is already in creative talks with Hemsworth about where to take the character next, it’s hard to imagine a permanent goodbye on the horizon.
Thor has been subject to change since his first appearance. He went from a prince to a cosmic oddball in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, and then a grief-stricken Avenger in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The character has been constantly changing. Hemsworth himself has welcomed those tonal changes, leaning towards reinvention instead of repetition. If he remains central in Doomsday, especially opposite Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, Thor could play a pivotal role in the saga’s emotional and mythic climax.
The God Of Thunder Isn’t Done

Thor sticking around opens doors that once seemed unlikely. The Hercules rivalry had been long-teased. The prospect of exploring King Thor. Even the old strands that have been hanging loose in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ since Olympus to Valhalla are now, inexplicably, setups, not loose ends.
It can also be filled with more cosmic narratives. Thor Corps. New gods. Old villains like Cul Borson or Dario Agger.

As the MCU approaches a soft reset, Thor might be a transitional figure between the times, one of the few original Avengers remaining. And that is the best part.
Thor is not merely surviving; he is adapting. Hemsworth has shown he’s willing to reshape the character to keep him fresh, whether that means dialing up the humor or steering back toward epic gravitas.
