Tom Holland opened up about ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ in his interview with Collider. He gave a brief preview of what fans can truly expect from the film, but most importantly, he spoke about his character.

Holland spoke about his character’s loneliness and the underlying message the movie has, “In the digital age, it is so easy to sit in your room and waste hours just scrolling, but nothing is better than getting out of the house and socializing with friends. That is just one of the many lessons Peter learns in this movie.”

This also explains Holland’s penchant for artistry as the actor actively involved himself in crafts such as crochet, carpentry, and so much more. He even stated how the activities helped him regulate his nervous system.

The trailer also shows Parker all scooched up and desolate, which underlines his state of mind. This is where the digital media also comes into the narrative.

The pervasiveness of social media is also something that affects him, which happens to be among one of the central themes of the movie, and here’s why!

With MJ and Ned’s memories all erased, Peter resorts to replaying the memories on his phone. This is quite evident in the opening scene of the trailer, where he replays the video of Ned and MJ discussing their first day at MIT.

Peter’s eyes are filled with sadness, longing, and yearning, yet this doesn’t stop him from reconnecting with his friends.

It is poignant and bittersweet in how the previous movie ended; MJ, Ned, and almost everyone no longer remember Spider-Man. To make it even worse, Aunt May’s death grips him emotionally.

As Peter Parker sits all scooched up next to his washing machine, it makes one thing certain. He shoulders the trauma and loss all alone.

What’s so fascinating about the trailer is that the free-fall moment perfectly symbolizes Peter’s hyperindependence and his mental state.

The whole act of replaying reels, videos, and memories is an endless self-sabotage, which Holland talks about. He even emphasizes the need for a community while spilling beans about the upcoming movie.

“I think what I am most proud of when thinking about this movie is the message. I really hope young people everywhere will watch this film and appreciate the importance of community, and that you don’t have to do this alone.

By and by, the trailer does seem hopeful for Parker as he starts his friendship with Ned and MJ on a clean slate. With new adversaries, it is also likely that he will work in tandem with ‘The Punisher.
