“It Was Crazy”: Tom Holland Got All Bruised During ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Stunts

While ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ might not be everyone’s favorite Spider-Man outing, it stands out for a different reason: the sheer physical effort Tom Holland poured into it. 

Known for his dedication and athleticism, Holland took on some of the most intense stunts in his career for this sequel. Due to the scale of his stunts, he walked away with not just accolades, but a fair share of bruises.

Following the massive success of ‘Avengers: Endgame‘, the expectations for ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ were very high. The film was tasked with setting the tone for the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was Spider-Man’s first outing after Tony Stark’s death.

So, this wasn’t just a Spider-Man movie; it was a pivotal piece of the MCU. Moreover, For Tom Holland, the stakes felt personal. “The last one, Endgame, seems to have impressed everyone, so with this one, we didn’t want to disappoint. We knew that the stakes were higher,” he admitted while talking to Ethos

Additionally, the pressure of being up to the mark after ‘Endgame’ translated into a grueling physical and emotional process for the actor. In the film, several action sequences also do not have masks, making it impossible for any stunt double to take Tom’s place.

I would say that I did 99 percent of the stunts, from pole vaulting up a 30-foot bridge, to running across poles and flipping off of buildings…it was crazy,” Holland recalled. The result was a collection of bruises to commemorate the effort. It’s safe to say that the authenticity of his stunts and his commitment to the role elevated the stakes for the audience.

Although ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ isn’t the fan favorite amongst the other three films, it’s impossible to ignore its narrative and significance. The introduction of Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, added a lot of complexities and twists to the Spider-Man saga.

Mysterio’s deceit not only drove the story forward but also left Peter Parker, and the audience, reeling. The ending, with Mysterio revealing Spider-Man’s identity to the world, further shifted the stakes for Peter in ways never before explored on screen. This pivotal moment set the stage for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’

Now, ‘No Way Home’ is considered li the crown jewel of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy. “Mysterio’s actions threw Peter’s life into chaos, which was fascinating to play out,” Holland reflected. “Creatively and emotionally, the arc of Spider-Man has this really dramatic trajectory.

That growth and the challenges Parker faced resonated with fans. Moreover, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is hailed as one of the best MCU films, expectations for the fourth installment are through the roof.
