‘What If…?’ Season 3 Will Feature Long-Anticipated MCU Debut Of A Well-Known Marvel Character

Marvel Animation is set to take audiences on a groundbreaking journey with the third season of ‘What If…?. At LightBox Expo, fans were treated to a panel that featured Matt Chauncey, Marvel Animation’s Head of Story.

Matthew Chauncey hinted at a monumental addition to the MCU, one that has been eagerly awaited by fans for years. He refrained from dropping names. However, the promise of a significant, well-known Marvel character making their debut in ‘What If…?’ was enough for fans.

Chauncey also shared insights into ‘X-Men ‘97, set to complement ‘What If…?’. Unlike the anthology style of ‘What If…?’, ‘X-Men ‘97’ is designed to pull viewers through an interconnected storyline where each episode brings a unique tone. Chauncey explained, “It’s almost like the characters react to today’s world, drawing from both classic comic arcs and current events.”

This approach aims to resonate with both longtime fans and newer audiences seeking relevant storytelling. The panel concluded with another surprise. It marked the debut of the opening credits for ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’.

Featuring a theme song that blends the iconic 1960s tune with a modern rap verse, the sequence bursts with nostalgic nods and vibrant energy. Chauncey’s excitement was evident, leaving attendees on the edge of their seats, eager for what lies ahead in Marvel Animation’s evolving slate.

The upcoming season of ‘What If…?’ promises to be its most ambitious yet. This was further highlighted by the surprising revelation of a musical episode. Inspired by the screwball comedies of 1930s Hollywood, this episode is poised to push the boundaries of what Marvel fans expect from animated storytelling.

“It’s a massive feat for animation,” Chauncey said. “Coordinating extensive dance sequences with character movement is a challenge, but Marvel went all in. It’s going to be spectacular,” he added.

Moreover, with the promise of a musical spectacle, long-awaited character introductions, and a thoughtful blend of classic and contemporary storytelling, ‘What If…?’ Season 3 is shaping up to be a must-watch.
