A month back, Marvel released the teaser of Thor: Love And Thunder. In no time, it became a fan favorite garnering 209 million views in 24 hours. Two days back, Marvel released the first official trailer of the film during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals on ESPN.
Fans took over social media praising the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor. The fans could not keep their calm with Christian Bale playing the antagonist Gorr The God Butcher. The character that the Marvel fanatics have been waiting for is Natalie Portman’s, Mighty Thor. Natalie’s appearance in the teaser of the film kept the people on tenterhooks. But, who is Natalie Portman’s, Mighty Thor?
How Comics Have Authored Mighty Thor?
Recently, in an interview, the director of Thor: Love And Thunder, Taika Waititi said, “You don’t want Natalie coming back and playing that same character who’s walking around with science equipment,” he explained. “You know, while Thor’s flying around, she’s left on Earth, tapping her foot going, ‘When’s he going to be back?’ That’s boring. You want her to be part of the adventure.” Well, definitely, Jane Foster aka Mighty Thor had a journey from being a regular astrophysicist to wielding the powers of a god. And in the new film, she will have a stronger story arc. However, in Jason Aarons’ Comics version, Jane Foster gets detected with breast cancer hampering her physical health, but surprisingly, she became worthy to lift the magical hammer, Mjølnir.
Jane is skewed with superpowers like durability, speed, strength, and stamina, but she couldn’t wield the thunder power, unlike her male counterpart. In the teaser, we could see Thor going unwieldy on a journey of self-discovery, but Jane has to pay a price for it! In the comics, while Thor is away, Jane takes up the role of the guardian while facing the increasing threat of her cancer. The woman possessing the hammer astonishes Thor, but he is more surprised to see Jane hold the Mjølnir.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe And Mighty Thor
On the magical hammer, the words, “Whosoever holds this hammer, if s(he) be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” Since the inception of the Cinematic Universe, we have seen Chris Evans aka Captain America lift the hammer. In the comics, characters like Silver Surfer from the Fantastic Four universe, Storm from X-men, and Beta Ray Bill from Omega Flight have also lifted the hammer.
However, In Thor: Ragnarok, Cate Blanchett’s Hela breaks the hammer which leads to the creation of Stormbreaker in Avengers: Infinity War. During the Time Heist when Thor goes back to Asgard to bring reality stone, he also brings back Mjølnir with him. But in the end scene, Captain America returns the hammer to its original timeline. So, it will be interesting to see how the original Mjølnir comes back to life after getting destroyed by Hela.
Now, the question arises, how did Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor find the hammer in Love And Thunder. It will also be interesting to watch how Waititi treats the Jane-Thor love arc as it has a tragic ending. The storyline plots the Mighty Thor, Thor, Valkyrie, and Korg on a mission to prevent Gorr The God Butcher from killing all the gods. After being secondary in both Thor and Thor: The Dark World, it would be interesting to see Natalie’s Mighty Thor taking the center stage.
Thor: Love And Thunder will have its theatrical release on July 8th, 2022.
