Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor is undoubtedly a key character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As one of the most popular superheroes of all time, it is evident that he will remain part of the franchise for the foreseeable future. However, the actor once worried his time as the Asgardian God might be over before making a huge impact.
Hemsworth admitted that he was unsure whether Thor could continue to influence the MCU. He genuinely believed he might not be invited back after his absence from ‘Captain America: Civil War.’
Chris Hemsworth Thought He Was Done as Thor During ‘Civil War’

In the book ‘The Story of Marvel Studios‘, Chris Hemsworth recalled overhearing his co-stars talking about working on ‘Civil War‘: “I was like, ‘What’s Civil War? Are you doing a side-project or something?”
He then realized how most of the Marvel actors were involved in the project, but Thor was not. “I thought, ‘This is it. I’m being written out,” Hemsworth added. “I was like, ‘What? Are we being fired?“‘ He eventually learned that Thor would be portrayed in standalone films showcasing his journey ahead.

How ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Reinvented The God Of Thunder

While ‘Thor: The Dark World‘ was an exciting step for Hemsworth in the MCU, the movie received poor reviews from critics and fans and turned out to be a disaster. Following the underwhelming response, the actor shifted the tone of the character in ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘.
The gamble paid off. Viewers responded positively, and it went on to become the highest-grossing instalment in the Thor franchise.

Hemsworth stated that he felt that something needed to be changed and told Kevin Feige (president of Marvel Studios), “We’ve just got to wipe the table…It has to be funnier; it has to be unpredictable.”
After ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘, Hemsworth once again set high expectations for ‘Love and Thunder‘, but it turned out to be a disappointment. It is safe to say that ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ might be the only film that revitalized Chris Hemsworth’s role in the MCU. Now, fans are waiting to see him in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’
