‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ was among the hits of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the perfect cast (Groot included). Many A-Lister celebrities auditioned for the role in the movie, including Joel Edgerton, but sadly, he didn’t get selected for it.
Joel Edgerton auditioned for the role of Star Lord but James Gunn had different plans for the character in his mind. Talking about that Joel couldn’t understand the tone and type of mannerisms Gunn was looking for.
Joel Remained Happy And Unbothered Despite His Failed Audition
The role of Star-Lord is portrayed by Chris Pratt in ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ but before him, the role could have been allotted to Joel Edgerton. He also auditioned for the role of Star-Lord but was rejected. During The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, Joel revealed, “I, unlike Chris, didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did.”
He didn’t know what kind of role James Gunn was looking for but he was also unbothered about it. He continued, “And I wasn’t really sure how I could be a part of that tone. And I truly think that the world is a much better place that I’m not Star-Lord, even if I had the opportunity or I did a good enough audition because it is the way it’s meant to be.”
Even though Joel couldn’t get a role in the Marvel movies, he still managed to be part of some successful Hollywood projects including ‘Star Wars’, ‘The Great Gatsby’ and his iconic role in the Australian television series ‘The Secret Life of Us‘ in which he played William McGill.

Impact Of ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ On MCU
Guardians Of The Galaxy is one of the most successful movies from the Marvel universe. The movie was a hit at the box office and shaped the future of the MCU. The movie also laid the foundation for stardom of Pratt.
The 2014 Marvel focuses on a ragtag group of space criminals who together fight to save the universe. The main cast of the movie included Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Lee Pace.
As of now, James Gunn is currently working under the leadership of DC with Peter Safran. Meanwhile, Joel is currently working on Apple TV+’s Dark Matter, which airs every Wednesday.
