“I Honestly Don’t Know What I’m Doing”: Wyatt Russell Still Hasn’t Received A Script For ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

As Marvel Studios gears up for one of its most ambitious ensemble films yet, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, fans are eager to know how every character fits into the massive puzzle. However, it turns out that even some of the film’s stars are just as in the dark as the rest of us.

Wyatt Russell, who plays U.S. Agent/John Walker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently admitted he hasn’t read the script for ‘Doomsday’ despite the film being less than a year away from release. His unexpected revelation raises more questions than answers.

Despite The Secrecy, Wyatt Russell Is Very Excited For ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

In an era when Marvel actors are notoriously tight-lipped due to NDAs and spoiler concerns, Wyatt Russell surprisingly gave some insight into ‘Doomsday‘s progress. While on Driven with Andrew Freund, the ‘Thunderbolts*’ star laid it all out. “I, honest to God, don’t know what I’m doing. I have not read a script, I could die in the first five minutes, I don’t know.

That level of transparency may be surprising, especially given that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is already in production. Moreover, with multiple storylines and dozens of characters, it’s not uncommon for actors to only receive partial scripts until the moment they’re needed on set.

Despite being left in the dark, Russell remains enthusiastic. “I’m beyond excited and honored to be in that part of the MCU,” he stated. Russell’s character was confirmed to return for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, yet his lack of clarity on his role raises fascinating questions about what Marvel is planning. Is John Walker a major player in the fight against Doctor Doom or a casualty in the opening moments?

‘Thunderbolts*’ Post-Credits Scene Was Originally Filmed For ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Though Wyatt Russell hasn’t read the script, we may have already seen the first hints of his next chapter in the post-credits scenes of ‘Thunderbolts*’. The film concluded with two end-credit scenes, one of which was a direct bridge to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. In a surprising turn, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine publicly rebranded her team of morally grey antiheroes as the “New Avengers.”

It was a major branding shift and one that signaled their elevated role in the MCU. However, it was the second post-credits scene that truly got fans buzzing. Set in the Watchtower, the sequence shows the New Avengers arguing as they watch a mysterious ship soar toward Earth. That ship? It belongs to none other than the Fantastic Four.

Jake Schreier later confirmed to EW that the scene was not just a tease; it was actually filmed for ‘Doomsday’. “That is a scene from Doomsday, so in theory, yes,” Schreier explained when asked if the New Avengers’ updated suits in the clip were their official costumes for the crossover. “Now, things can change, as they do in the Marvel world, but as currently constituted, you were watching a small hint of that film.”

The scene was filmed just a month ago and not even by Schreier himself. “I was very happy to be there and lucky to be there,” he said. “It was so fun to see your characters go off into this bigger context.” While Russell might not know his fate, the cast of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ suggests a film of truly epic proportions.
