In Short
  • The cast of Bridgerton may feel fresh, but many of its stars have appeared in notable films and TV shows before joining the series.
  • From historical dramas to modern thrillers, these actors have built diverse portfolios across different genres and platforms.
  • Some familiar faces might surprise you, as several cast members had standout roles that went under the radar before Bridgerton brought them global recognition.

We can’t get enough of ‘Bridgerton‘, and it’s just been 4 seasons. And most of its credits go to the well-put-together cast. Even though most of you might think they were always made to fit in these silk gowns and tuxedos, that’s not the case.

In fact, most of the ‘Bridgerton‘ cast is quite well-seasoned, and you’ve probably seen them in your favourite movie or tv shows. Here are 10 movies and TV shows where the Bridgerton cast performed before they became part of the ton.

1. Nicola Coughlan – Derry Girls (2018)

Before becoming our very own Lady Whistledown, our very own Penelope Bridgerton, aka Nicola Coughlan, became a favourite through the hit sitcom ‘Derry Girls‘. In the sitcom, she plays Clare Devlin, a sweet and ambitious high school girl with remarkable academic achievements. But her friends are a constant source of frustration for her. If you want to know how she copes with that, go ahead and give it a watch!

As we all know, Bailey is famous for playing our heartthrob, Anthony Bridgerton. But other than that, he gained quite a reputation for deeply rich and complex performance in ‘Fellow Travelers‘. In the series, he plays Tim Laughlin, a young congressional staffer caught in a complicated romance with State Department official Matt Bomer during the McCarthy era. You’ll see several decades of romance between two men as they try to overcome the struggles of love and the secrecy of the 1950s.

3. Claudia Jessie – Vanity Fair (2018)

You won’t believe but our beloved Eloise Bridgerton, aka Claudia Jessie, appeared in ‘Vanity Fair‘. Jessie portrays Amelia Sedley, a kind-hearted woman who allows the ambitious Becky Sharp to live in her home after she loses her teaching job with Ms Pinkerton. Apart from seeing her play an incredible role, the series also emphasises issues such as social climbing, meritorious ambition, and the shifting fortunes of the upper class back in the 19th century.

4. Simone Ashley – Sex Education (2019)

Before Ashley dominated the screen as Kate Sharma in ‘Bridgerton’, she appeared in the popular Netflix series ‘Sex Education‘. In the drama, she appears as Olivia Hanan, a member of the Untouchables at Moordale Secondary School. In contrast to our sweet Kate, she is often seen as mean and arrogant, yet has often shown her kindhearted side to some people. To understand how she really is, you need to give it a watch!

5. Regé-Jean Page – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010)

Long before becoming our hot Duke of Hastings, Regé-Jean Page had a small cameo in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1‘. You can spot him as an uncredited guest during the wedding scene of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour. Most of us are well aware of how big a thing it is to be a part of Harry Potter this early in our careers. No wonder he deserved ‘Bridgerton‘!

Known for playing the elegant Daphne Bridgerton, Phoebe appeared in the series ‘Younger‘ back in 2017. You can see her as Clare, a young Irish woman who begins dating Josh after Liza’s recommendation. Even though she appears only in Season 4 and 7, her character arc is quite interesting.

Well, well, well, it’s the turn for our latest ‘Bridgerton‘ favourite, Benedict Bridgerton, aka Luke Thompson. But before stealing our hearts in the Netflix series, we caught a glimpse of him in Christopher Nolan’s war film ‘Dunkirk‘. In the movie, he appears as a British warrant officer involved in the Dunkirk evacuation. Even though the role isn’t a major one, he ends up giving his best!

8. Luke Newton – The Lodge (2016)

Before winning hearts as Colin Bridgerton, Luke Newton starred in the Disney Channel musical drama ‘The Lodge‘. Luke appears as Ben Evans, a talented musician and a repairman at the North Star, who becomes part of a tightly knit group of teenagers at a countryside lodge. The series features some of the best musical performances, along with coming-of-age storylines about friendship and rivalry.

9. Ruth Gemmell – Fever Pitch (1997)

Lady Violet Bridgerton is not as sophisticated as she appeared in the romantic comedy ‘Fever Pitch‘. In the rom-com, she plays Sarah Hughes, a new teacher who begins a relationship with Paul, a football aficionado. It’s quite interesting to watch as their romance unfolds amid Paul’s intense obsession with football.

10. Hyacinth Bridgerton – Cursed (2020)

Apart from winning our hearts as Hyacinth in ‘Bridgerton‘, Florence Hunt made her television debut as a 10-year-old Nimue in ‘Cursed‘. She portrayed the younger version of the lead character, with Katherine Langford playing the adult role. Even though Hunt appeared in two episodes of the series, titled “Alone” and “The Joining,” her character arc was quite intersting.
