If you thought your favourite actors just showed up, said their lines, and headed to the trailer for a matcha latte, then Anne Hathaway is here, from Christopher Nolan’s latest set, ‘The Odyssey‘, to respectfully disrupt that vibe.
According to co-star Logan Marshall-Green, Hathaway fully transformed into her character and stayed in character for days, even when the cameras were not rolling.
Anne Hathaway Stayed Fully Immersed While Filming ‘The Odyssey’

Hathaway takes on the role of Penelope in ‘The Odyssey‘, the loyal wife of Odysseus in Homer’s famous Greek epic. In the movie, the character waits years for her husband to return home, so the role carries a lot of emotional complexities. And Hathaway clearly took that responsibility seriously while working on the film.

Actor Logan Marshall-Green recently spoke to Variety about his experience filming with Hathaway. He explained that some scenes took several days to complete. During that time, Hathaway continued to perform as Penelope, even when the camera was not filming her directly.
“Anne would be fully performing in character, and the camera wouldn’t even see her for three days in the one scene we’d be shooting,” Marshall-Green said.
The “Nolan Standard” That Pushed Everyone to Work Hard

While Hathaway’s focus is next-level, it fits perfectly within the ecosystem Christopher Nolan creates. On a Nolan set, there’s no such thing as “downtime.” At the same time, Marshall-Green said the atmosphere on set was largely shaped by Nolan.

Nolan is known for his dedication to his work, and that energy spreads throughout the set. “He is Christopher Nolan, and the second you are on set, you are working,” Marshall-Green said. So, once filming started, everyone stayed fully involved.
To explain the feeling on set, Marshall-Green compared it to standing near the ocean. Turning your back even for a second could mean a wave suddenly crashing in. That is how alert everyone had to stay during filming.
Still, Marshall-Green said the experience was fantastic. He enjoyed working alongside talented people in every department and said he would happily work with Nolan again “in a heartbeat.”
Alongside Anne Hathaway and Logan Marshall-Green, the film also includes Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron, and we’re very excited to see how each of them fits into their roles.
