Lo’ak’s role as the new narrator becomes clear as he ushers his siblings underwater, breathless but determined, reminding them of the family motto: “Sullys never quit.” It is a tender scene in the middle of pure horror. It strengthens the emotional foundation of the film and showcases the indestructible friendship between the Sullys. However, there is a darker undertone as well.
