“We’re Still Smart Enough”: George Clooney Promises A Brain-Over-Brawn Heist In ‘Ocean’s 14’

When ‘Ocean’s 11‘ first came out in 2001, the crew was young and quick on their feet. Fast forward more than two decades, and things look very different.

George Clooney, now 64, has finally spoken openly about how much both the characters and the actors have aged since that first heist and why that actually works in their favour this time for ‘Ocean’s 14‘.

George Clooney Doesn’t Think Age Is Just A Number

While discussing ‘Ocean’s 14‘s plot and storyline, Clooney joked, “We’re too old to do what we used to do.” At 64, Clooney is now one of several original cast members in their late 50s or early 60s. Naturally, that means the physical stunts from the early films are no longer realistic. Instead of pretending otherwise, Clooney made it clear the film fully accepts that reality.

More importantly, he hinted that age isn’t treated as a problem in the story. Rather, it becomes part of the setup of the sequel. The crew isn’t pretending they can still move the same way they did in their 30s. They know their limits now, and that changes how the heist works for a group of 60-year-olds. That’s where Clooney flips the whole idea.

Experience Replaces Speed In ‘Ocean’s 14’

Right after joking about being too old, Clooney summed up the new direction with one line: “But we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something.” The crew may have “lost a step,” but they have gained years of experience. Instead of quick stunts, now, we will see them depend on timing. Instead of risky stunts, they focus on planning.

Clooney also shared that this version of the film was not made just to revisit the past. He said the idea was inspired by ‘Going in Style‘, where older characters were shown pulling off a job using brains rather than strength.

With Steven Soderbergh once again involved and filming expected to begin in October 2026, Ocean’s 14 turns age into its biggest advantage.
