Henry Cavill has been one of the most popular names to be linked to the future of James Bond. The concept of the actor filling the iconic tuxedo has been a subject of fan discussion for almost 20 years.
However, as the next installment of the 007 series proceeds, Cavill himself has now provided a refreshingly candid view of the situation. And though the answer may be disappointing to some of his long-time supporters, it also leaves open a very interesting possibility that could keep him in touch with Bond’s world in a very different manner.
Henry Cavill Thinks He’s Too Old To Be The New James Bond

Even before Henry Cavill gained international fame with roles like Superman in the DC Universe, he was among the last candidates to portray Bond in ‘Casino Royale’. Finally, it was given to Daniel Craig, whose performance would become a new generation of Bond. The story of Cavill almost being cast has, over the years, become one of the most intriguing Hollywood casting what-ifs.

With his career expanding with projects like ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Mission: Impossible Fallout’, the idea of Bond somehow returning to its path was again discussed by the fans. “I didn’t turn the role down; it just wasn’t the right time. What actor wouldn’t love to be Bond?” he told Collider.
However, Cavill has just admitted that the time might have just slipped by. At 42, the actor indicated that he may be too old to have a long-term tenure as the legendary spy. Still, Cavill clarified that he had never rejected it. Instead, he confessed that being Bond was a thrilling prospect for any actor.
Cavill Proposes A Villainous Role In The Bond Universe

Although the tuxedo is a stretch, Cavill is not willing to leave the Bond universe behind completely. Rather, he pitched a concept that could arguably be as thrilling: being a villain. With Amazon MGM Studios currently developing the next Bond installment, the 26th film in the series, speculation around the new cast is already heating up.

The names of rising stars such as Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner are also said to be in the fray to replace Craig. Behind the camera, the project also brings together some major talent. The film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, and the script will be written by Steven Knight. The production is being supervised by producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal.
There are rumors that the plot might be based on the increasing danger of artificial intelligence. It’s a notion that might demand a villain of especially chilling nature. And, frankly, Cavill taking on such a role is a rather convincing thought. After all, sometimes the most memorable characters in a Bond film aren’t the heroes. They are the villains who put them to the test.
